Position Purpose

As a hospital security officer, you protect staff, patients, and visitors and ensure that all hospital property is secure. Your duties are to patrol the building and its grounds, monitor all activity in and out of the hospital, and endeavor to prevent vandalism, theft, fire, and disturbances within the facility.

Position Duties (not all inclusive)

• Maintains Departmental policies and procedures with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies
• Ensures appropriate available staff for department, fill in staff role as needed.
• Assist the Director of Support Services in interviews for prospective security employees and makes recommendation for hiring in coordination with Human Resources.
• Responsible for ensuring documented training for new employees and continuing documented training I.E. new hire orientation / annual orientation and monthly department meetings as it is required.
• Assist the Support Services Director in conjunction with Human Resources with proper management procedures in coaching, documenting, counseling, and terminations.
• Provides performance reviews on staff to the Director of Support Services. Reviews approved evaluations by Director of Support Services with security employees.
• Accurately tracks attendance on employees, in coordination with the Attendance Policy holds employee’s accountable in conjunction with the Support Services Director and HR Director.
• ON time Completes department schedules ensuring adequate coverage.
• Documents all activities during the shift on the "SECURITY CHECK-OFF REPORT".
• Documentation is required of all occurrences including but not limited to routine door checks, unsecured doors found, opening of secure doors for authorized personnel, dietary deposit, suspicious persons loitering, safety problems, mechanical malfunctions, alarms, etc.
• Periodically tours buildings and grounds, examine doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure and not tampered with.
• Confronts unauthorized persons for questions, routs or detains them, or telephones police for assistance, according to circumstances.
• Sound fire signal to alert fire department and hospital personnel in event of fire to extinguish fire. Responds to fire alarm system and location of fire. Sounds fire alarm to alert fire department and hospital personnel, in the event when plant operations are not on campus. (nights, weekends, evenings).
• Patrols hospital grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles.
• Checks cars and verifies if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as fire zones, turnarounds, ambulance entrances or reserved parking spaces.
• Checks exterior lighting and access routes to emergency and fire entrances.
• Escorts personnel, patients, and visitors to and from parking lots or between buildings as requested.
• Properly respond to emergency codes and mock codes.
• Proactively seek out and resolve issues that may negatively impacting site security and occupant safety.
• Respond to acute behavioral events and assist with de-escalation and problem solving to support the person or the responding team.
• Escort emergency first responders during fire or hazardous materials events.
• Available to open doors in sensitive areas upon proper request by authorized personnel.

Qualifications

• Required: Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Required: Valid Commissioned Security Officer License (Level 3 validated through TOPS) -CPI or Equivalent documented training (Crisis Prevention/De-escalation).
• Required: 5 years' experience as Security Officer or as Law Enforcement Professional.
• Required: Valid Driver’s License
