Database Administration Manager manages the administration of an organization's database. Analyzes the organization's database needs and develops a long-term strategy for data storage.   • POSITION SUMMARY

    Performs difficult professional and responsible administrative work administering and supervising the design, debugging, and testing of computer software; does related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Application Development Manager.

    This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, crouching, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    · Provide technical support for the database environment

    · Oversee the development and organization of databases

    · Assess and implement new technologies

    · Develop a methodology for ongoing assessment of database performance

    · Identify problem areas and propose solutions

    · Develop a security scheme for the database environment

    · Assist in disaster recovery planning

    · Work with vendors to evaluate and implement new technologies

    · Deploy database change scripts provided by third-party vendors

    · Install and configure new SQL Servers

    · Ensure new database code meets company standards

    · Design indexes for existing applications

    · Stay current with latest technologies and industry best practices

    · Develop, implement, and verify database backup and disaster recovery strategies

    · Maintain documentation of the production environment

    · Advise the Director and Deputy Director of IT on database-related matters and solutions

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    · Extensive knowledge and experience with server-client computing and relational database environments

    · Familiarity with reporting and query tools and practices

    · Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

    · Self-motivated and detail-oriented

    · Proficiency in Database Administration, Management, and Security

    · Knowledge of Data Transformation Services (DTS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)

    · Proficiency in T-SQL Scripting and Windows server operating systems

    · Minimum of 3 years of experience in database development and support of MS SQL Server environments

    · Strong experience in SQL Server Database Administration

    · Solid understanding of backups, restores, recovery models, and database shrink operations

    · Proficient in SQL Development, including writing and troubleshooting SQL Code and designing database objects (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints)

    · Experience in creating database architecture and associated schema as part of a software design process

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and major course work in computer science or related field and 3 years experience in database design and administration.

    LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    · Within one year of employment must obtain Microsoft Certified Solution Associate (MCSA): SQL Server certification.

    · Must pass SLED and AFIS background checks.

    · All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System.

    · Possession of a valid State issued driver's license.
