    Primary Purpose of Position:  

    This position is responsible for managing and supporting database platforms on prem, in Azure, hosted, and as part of Disaster Recovery, working closely with the vendors, external consultants, application support teams, technical support team, and network administrators; recognizing areas for improvement in the team; taking appropriate action to initiate changes; installing, configuring, upgrading, and maintaining database instances; recommending and implementing database security policies; recommending and implementing database backup, recovery, and redundancy strategies; implementing automated monitoring to ensure proactive handing of issues; working independently to perform database performance analysis, capacity planning, system sizing and ongoing maintenance; recommending best practices and performing other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

    • Install, configure, and maintain the performance of database servers.

    • Monitor the performance of database hardware and software.
    • Monitor Azure and SQL Recommendations and implement best practices.
    • Reduce operational costs by optimizing routine administrative tasks.
    • Administer, patch and monitor performance of database servers.
    • Perform database migration and upgrade tasks.
    • Design, develop, implement Structure Query Languages (SQL) databases and analytical procedures.
    • Certifies accuracy and completeness of applications by preparing data and testing features, functionality, and results.
    • Develop processes for optimizing database access and security.
    • Prepares documentation of all procedures, changes or maintenance in applications
    • Create automation for repetitive database tasks.
    • Perform database backup and recovery.
    • Administer high availability (HA) database environment.
    • Research complex data issues: examine data in various source systems for inconsistencies, review transformation logic and propose corrective alternatives.
    • Confer with people originating, handling, processing, or receiving reports to identify problems and to gather suggestions for improvements. 
    • Evaluate findings, using knowledge of workflow, operating practices, records retention schedules, and office equipment layout. 
    • Participates on committees and other structured workgroups as a technical resource and as an IT Department liaison.  
    • Deploy database code to development, test, and production environments.
    • Create and maintain documentation of database systems.
    • Creates complex reports and Data Cubes using various software tools such as structured query language (SQL), Microsoft (SSRS), (SSAS), SSIS, and Microsoft Excel.

    • Develop and modify existing databases and database management systems to meet the evolving requirements of the LME/MCO. 
    • Test programs or databases, correct errors and make necessary modifications.
    • Work as part of a project team to coordinate database and reporting development and determine project scope and limitations.
    • Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to serve as a source of information and advice for the Applications Support Manager and the SQL Development Manager.  Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system or direct others in coding descriptions.
    • Review workflow charts developed by system analysts to understand tasks computers will perform, such as updating records.
    • Independently audit and verify system information from both systems generated, and user produced reports for consistency and accuracy.  
    • Assist IT staff with the development of automated processes as required in completion of the current and long-range goals set forth by the Applications Support Manager.  Works with Project Teams and business resources to gather business requirements and drive functional and technical designs for Business Intelligence solutions (Data Warehouse, ETL, Metadata, Operational/Tactical/Strategic Reporting, and Dashboards) 
    • Deliver projects on time and within budget with a high degree of quality.
    • Work with multiple cross-functional project teams to accomplish development activities that will include (but not be limited to) logical and physical data modeling leveraging BI design principles, semantic layer modeling and design, universe design and development, report design, development, testing and deployment, dashboard design, development, testing and deployment.
    • Create complex technical reports and reporting infrastructure including data definitions and views.  
    • Conduct comprehensive analysis to produce complex documents that clearly define quality assurance, testing criteria, prototypes and mock-ups; measure results in sufficient detail; utilize version control for requirements.
    • Compile and integrate data from outside sources; analyzes errors in digital file exchange and makes corrections.
    • Responsible for the strict adherence all Federal and State Laws, Rules and Regulations including but not limited to the following: HIPAA, HITECH, FERPA, etc. and Industry Recognized Security Standards (ex. NIST).
    • Obtains, analyzes, queries and manipulates data as directed by supervisor.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Considerable knowledge of computers and related information technology devices
    • Considerable knowledge of programming techniques, the appropriate programming language(s), operating systems, and the capabilities and limitations of computer and peripheral equipment
    • Demonstrated technical aptitude through strong analytical skills, problem identification and resolution, organizational skills, creativity, and critical thinking.

    Education/Experience Required:   Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, engineering, or computer science, or equivalent work experience.

    Minimum of 5 years of experience performing Database administration or database engineering duties for database internals, and you have experience supporting these database platforms: SQL Server, MySQL 

    Minimum of 3 years of experience supporting software engineering teams through the software development lifecycle

    Minimum of 3 years of experience deploying, operating, and monitoring infrastructure in the AWS cloud of training and experience.
