    Position Mission and Summary

    Hope College is seeking a Database Programmer/Analyst with a developer background to help us create and maintain efficient integration of data between several software systems while also working to develop data structures that support institutional reporting and analytics. Part of a small team of developers and project managers within the IT department, we want someone who will also collaborate with larger, cross-functional teams to modernize and transform the college’s data, integrations, and business intelligence infrastructure.

    Responsibilities and Outcomes

    Collaboratively with the data and project management teams, you will:

    Develop

    • Developing Extract/Transform/Load (ETL) processes to move data between enterprise systems and business resources.
    • Creating new or changing existing data sources for administrative departments to utilize with business processes and practices.
    • A partner in the implementation/development of new software as directed by management.
    • Constantly learning about rising technologies and aid in determining their appropriate use.
    • Demonstrated Outcomes:
      • Help create new integration processes for the data warehouse and other third party software.
      • Be able to identify key data structures at Hope College.
      • Create foundational reporting data structures in the enterprise reporting platform(s).
      • Collaborate with teams outside of CIT to help new software implementations be successful.


    Maintain

    • Maintaining data integration processes between Ellucian Banner, Slate CRM, and other campus data systems using standard ETL tools.
    • Working to understand and document business processes, data definitions, and existing data structures for the ERP and other third party systems.
    • Assisting in quality assurance efforts to maintain accuracy of data and the data dictionary.
    • Demonstrated Outcomes:
      • In a timely manner, troubleshoot and resolve data integration issues across Hope systems.
      • Provide documentation on processes developed by the employee or support that has been given to other areas of the college.
      • Create and maintain appropriate test strategies for Hope systems.


    IT is a constantly changing profession, and this position reflects that! As newer technologies and best practices surface, the responsibilities of this job description may change depending on new projects you would be working on.

    Hope College CIT has a culture and history of supporting other areas of the college during times of high volume and change. There are times you may be asked to work with other areas of the college. You are someone who embraces this type of work.

    Remote work option of up to two days a week available after initial orientation and training

    Qualifications
    • Qualifications and Core Competencies

      • You are familiar with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems and databases. Ellucian Banner is the system Hope uses, which is preferred.
      • We would love to see someone that has knowledge of Oracle SQL, Microsoft SQL, and/or ETL experience.
      • Microsoft SSIS is the current integration platform we use. Experience with that would be beneficial, but not required.
      • You are comfortable with Business Intelligence platforms. Argos, Tableau, Cognos, Microsoft Power BI, or similar Business Intelligence reporting experience is a plus.
      • You know programming languages, familiarity with C#, Visual Basic .NET, Google Apps Script, and especially Python are a plus. You are able to navigate through a Linux command line.
      • You know how to use office productivity tools such as Microsoft products or Google Workspace.
      • Analytical Skills: You are able to structure and process qualitative or quantitative data and draw insightful conclusions from it. You love to dig deep into problems and achieve penetrating insights.

      • Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Computer Science or IT-related major, minor, or coursework preferred.


    Physical Demands
    This position requires remaining in a sitting or standing position for frequent periods of time; uses office machinery such as a computers, printers, copy machines; Occasionally involves moving items over 10 pounds; frequently will move between different offices/workspaces/buildings; and requires effective communication abilities.
