Database Engineer plans, designs, develops, and manages an organization's databases to ensure efficient data storage, access, and security. Collaborates with users to design, code, test, debug, and deploy databases that meet requirements and organizational needs. Being a Database Engineer writes queries, stored procedures and functions for database development. Monitors databases' performance, scalability, and security and modifies procedures to optimize database designs. Additionally, Database Engineer evaluates existing database design to determine necessary updates, performance tuning, and integration requirements. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of database technologies and solid coding and computer system skills. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Database Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Database Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Job Description:
- Monitor database health manually and automatically by using SQL and shell scripts and by employing Oracle and third-party GUI tools.
- Configure databases to comply with industry security guidance and patching.
- Perform server hardware sizing such as disks, memory, processes, and environment set up prior to installing software.
- Provide guidance to the field for upgrade installations, performs upgrades, and conduct performance tuning.
- Develop and implement SQL scripts for various aspects of the database such as startup and shutdown, performance monitoring, notifications, and task automation.
- Install, configure, and maintain replication applications such as Oracle Golden Gate for Oracle and Oracle Data Guard for replication of the database to other sites.
- Use Oracle v12 through current releases; provide sustainment support for existing deprecated releases.
- Encrypt database storage with Oracle Transparent Data Encryption services.
- Develop and enforce Oracle recurring password change scheme for all administrative accounts
- Maintain disaster recovery of system/database.
- Modernize backup infrastructure, update database backup strategy, and perform database backups.
- Develop and implement OEM email/text alerts to notify the DBA team of anomalies.
- Perform recurring testing of the database high-availability options; integrate and configure the “sister” site Exadata systems as data guard compliments.
- Develop Oracle software “upgrade” procedures to complement existing installation and patch procedures.
- Monitor console for anomalies; create automated systems health-check to augment manual console alerting system.
- Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.
- Cimarron employees are required to follow federal, state, and local laws regarding COVID-19 practices, as well as customer requirements.
- Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
- 5 or more years of related professional experience.
- Current experience with Oracle in Windows, Solaris, and/or Red Hat Enterprise LINUX v6.0/7.0 environments.
- Understanding of Oracle Product Lifecycle and Deployment – repeatable software installation and maintenance.
- Understanding of Oracle Product development support.
- Understanding of Oracle Software Licensing and Oracle Software Management.
- Experience with MS SQL Server and My SQL Databases.
- Experience with server administration for Windows and Linux servers OS.
- Experience with Oracle Weblogic (installation, configuration, implementation, and basic administration).
