Collaborates with users to design, code, test, debug, and deploy databases that meet requirements and organizational needs. Being a Database Engineer writes queries, stored procedures and functions for database development. Monitors databases' performance, scalability, and security and modifies procedures to optimize database designs. Additionally, Database Engineer evaluates existing database design to determine necessary updates, performance tuning, and integration requirements. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of database technologies and solid coding and computer system skills. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Database Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Database Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.     SUMMARY

    The Lead Database Engineer will provide technical leadership and data expertise to the Data Technical Support team. This engineer will use technology for developing and translating computer algorithms into prototype code and maintaining, organizing, quality management and identifying trends in large datasets.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelor's degreein a computer science discipline or equivalent  

    Master’s degree in data related discipline or equivalent (preferred) 

    Six(6)years of relevant experienceproviding services similar in required tasks, scope, and complexity. 

    Must possess and maintain a current DoD Top Secret clearance and eligible for SCI access and ACCM read-on.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    The Lead Database engineer is responsible for leading the development and translation of computer algorithms into prototype code and maintains, organizes, and identifies trends in large datasets.  

    Lead Database engineers, advise customer/agile program manager, coordinate with Data Scientist, and technical review of technical contract deliverables. 

    Designs SQL databases. 

    Creates process documentation.  

    Provides written and verbal communication.  

    Codes in python, java, Kafka, hive, R, or storm  

    Oversees real-time business metric aggregation, data warehousing and querying, schema and data management, and related duties.  

    Designs, develops, and tests state-of-the-art Cloud-based database platforms.  

    Implements and maintains complex databases.  

    Analyze procedures to control the access and allocation of data. 

    Manage risk and Maintain security controls in supported databases.  

    Applies advanced principles, theories, and concepts to job assignments and contribute to the development of new ideas and principles.  

    Solves complex problems, under consultative direction, and represent the SOF Data Science teams across the SOF Works on Intelligence Enterprise on long-range programs and objectives.  

    Provides advice to the SOF Intelligence Data Team customer and assist in overall functional strategic data planning.  
     

    Works directly with the SOF DTS to ensure the data systems supporting the DTS are functioning optimally and can integrate any needed capabilities to support the team.  

      

    Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.  

      

    Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company. 

      

    Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
