Summary - As a Database Administrator at Studies Weekly, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing our MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, ensuring their reliability, performance, and security. You will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), collaborate closely with software engineering teams, and provide one-off reports as needed. This role will evolve and adapt as we integrate it into our department.
Responsibilities:
Database Management: Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize MySQL and PostgreSQL databases to ensure high availability and performance.
Query Optimization: Develop and fine-tune database queries to enhance software application performance and efficiency.
Security: Implement and enforce database security best practices to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
Backup and Recovery: Establish and maintain robust backup and recovery processes to safeguard critical data.
Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitor database performance and proactively address any issues or bottlenecks.
Collaboration: Work closely with software engineering teams to understand their database requirements and provide them with optimized queries.
One-off Reports: Create ad-hoc reports as needed by various teams within the organization.
Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
Scaling: Assist in database scaling efforts as the company grows.
Adaptive Role: Be open to an evolving role as we integrate this position into our department and adapt to changing needs.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Proven experience as a Database Administrator, with expertise in MySQL and PostgreSQL.
Proficiency in writing efficient SQL queries and query optimization.
Strong knowledge of database security principles and best practices.
Experience with backup and recovery procedures.
Ability to collaborate effectively with software engineers and other cross-functional teams.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Certification in database administration (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) is a plus.
Physical Demands –
The employee is required to talk, hear and see. At times, this position requires the employee to stand, sit, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, ascend and descend stairs. Also to reach with arms and hands, and use hands and fingers to feel, handle, and manipulate keyboard keys. The employee is also required to lift up to 20 lbs.
