Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Communications requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Communications manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Communications typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     • Master's degree in Educational Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction is preferred.
    • Required experience in educational leadership roles, with strong preference for candidates who have demonstrated a track record of effective academic program management and faculty development across PreK-12 grade levels.
    • Demonstrated commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation in education.
    • Knowledge of and experience with relevant technology.
    • Solid biblical and theological foundation and understanding.

    Position Summary:

    The Dean of Academics reports to the Principals of the Upper, Middle, and Lower Schools. This person will lead and nurture the academic environment at The Brook Hill School. This role involves strategic planning and execution to ensure academic excellence aligned with the School’s ethos.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Possess and model a growing relationship with Christ and accept and uphold The Brook Hill School’s Statement of Faith
    • Seamlessly and deliberately integrate Biblical truth and Christian values into day-to-day duties
    • Take an active role in ensuring the School’s effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed; providing pertinent information and commentary to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing directives
    • Oversee the development and implementation of a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum including a vertical scope and sequence aligned to state standards and assessment processes.
    • Research, design, and/or supplement the academic curriculum for all subjects and grades with a focus on integrating innovative teaching methods, ensuring they reflect the School’s commitment to excellence and align with our educational philosophy.
    • Direct the School's standards-based assessment strategies and systems to support a data-driven culture where assessments are used to support all students’ learning outcomes. Use data to monitor grade-level progress against scope and sequence benchmarks.
    • Cultivate critical and creative thinking within the curriculum, encouraging students to explore and engage with complex ideas. Foster a culture of inquiry and intellectual curiosity.
    • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment, fostering a culture of respect, growth, and academic excellence.
    • Work closely with faculty to ensure academic curriculum is relevant, dynamic, and engages students effectively; this includes regular review and adaptation to meet evolving educational standards.
    • Support faculty, fostering a collegial environment that encourages professional development, collaboration, and academic excellence. Provide guidance and mentorship to teachers to enhance their lesson-planning and instructional skills.
    • Implement strategies for curriculum alignment, ensuring a cohesive and comprehensive educational experience across grade levels. Promote interdisciplinary learning and collaboration among departments.
    • Advocate for and ensure the effective integration of technology in teaching and learning, staying abreast of educational technology trends and best practices, supporting the Director of Educational Technology and Innovation.
    • Work with intervention specialists in the Academic Center for Excellence to provide constructive feedback on teachers’ planning and assessment materials to ensure that our students’ diverse learning needs are being met.
    • Observe classes regularly and create a system for timely and relevant feedback.
    • Participate in staff recruitment, staff orientation, student/family recruitment, and student/family orientation.
    • Improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.
    • Occasional evening or weekend work required as it relates to the duties described.
    • Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor, the Head of School, or another designee of the Head of School.
