Dean of Communications manages administrative functions of the college of communications. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Communications leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Communications requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Communications manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Communications typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     1. HOURS PER WEEK:          35

     

    1. QUALIFICATIONS:           Associates degree or better in related field. 2 years

    experience coordinating student activities related to TCI  and/or RJ. Trainer certification in RJ and TCI.

     

     

    V.                                   FUNCTIONS:                    To provide support, coordination and training within the                                  education program and to ensure a safe and therapeutic                             treatment milieu. To serve as a role model by                                            demonstrating professional skills and adherence to agency                        policies and procedures.

     

    1. RESPONSIBILITIES:         

    Support and Coordination 

    • Provide agency staff with guidance in the performance of their duties.
    • Ensure implementation of agency policies and procedures. 
    • Communicate with assigned Program Administrators and Program Managers to ensure the safety of clients and staff.
    • Provide assistance, support, consultation, and on the floor training to staff using Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Individual Crisis Support Plans and/or Behavior Intervention Plans. 
    • Provide assistance, support, consultation, and on the floor training to staff in the use of Restorative Justice (RJ) 
    • Structure and facilitate emergency evacuations (i.e. fire drills) and other emergency situations such as power outages.
    • Coordinate staff assignments for supervision needs across the education program as needed.
    • Oversee crisis situations and education staff in crisis situations to ensure safety.
    • Answer or re-direct phone calls to appropriate staff.
    • Assist outside visitors when they come to the education floors and direct them to appropriate areas.  This includes but is not limited to the police, mobile crisis, and fire department. 
    • Conduct frequent school building checks to ensure agency safety.
    • Ensure immediate post-crisis response is conducted according to TCI/RJ standards and guidelines.
    • Coordinate the debriefing of critical incidents, as needed.

     

    Agency Documentation

    • Complete and compile internal reports including but not limited to: Critical Incident Reports and Significant Incident Reports according to agency protocol and New York State Justice Center regulations; log entries; staff statements; staff debriefing. 
    • Assist agency staff in reporting incidents to the New York State Justice Center.

     

    Training

    • Maintain Certification as a Trainer for TCI through Cornell University as scheduled. 
    • Maintain Certification as a Trainer for Restorative Justice as scheduled.
    • Assist in training staff in TCI/RJ techniques, initially and as scheduled for review.
    • Demonstrate effective skills, direction, and coaching to agency staff regarding crisis prevention, crisis management, problem solving, and effective supervision to ensure safety and a trauma-sensitive, therapeutic milieu. 
    • Conduct formal classroom training. 
    • Provide a supportive and consistent working relationship with agency staff ( i.e., provides feedback, support, has awareness of other workers skill levels and is sensitive to their needs).

     

    • Abide by the NYS Justice Center and the SAI Codes of Conduct/Ethics.
    • Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
