Dean of Communications manages administrative functions of the college of communications. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Communications leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Communications requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Communications manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Communications typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Summary

    A Junior Dean (JD) ensures the success of Oxford Royale's US program and brand proposition on all fronts: welfare, safety and organisation, while ensuring students have an enjoyable and academically enriching experience. JDs are responsible for leading a team of Counsellors. They should have experience in supervising teenagers and young adults. They must balance a disciplined approach with a positive, outgoing and sociable character.

    JDs and Counsellors are the first point of contact for our students outside of lessons, not only responsible for their everyday safety and well-being (on campus and on all off-campus visits) but also for their broader academic achievement and enjoyment. This US pastoral team provides students with enduring memories and the experience of a lifetime, fulfilling two key roles:

    • supporting an integrated academic program led by a team of experienced teachers
    • delivering extra-curricular activities in a safe environment

    Key Responsibilities

    • Represent Oxford Royale brand values and inspire a love of learning
    • Supervise student safety while on and off campus, in transit and at all external excursion sites
    • Lead activities to enrich the Academic Program, maintaining mature professional standards
    • Lead the organisation, content and delivery of the Social and Enrichment Programs to optimise the students' experience
    • Report student safeguarding issues to the senior leadership team
    • Work collaboratively with other Junior Deans and the Campus Leadership Team for an excellent delivery of the summer programme
    • Deliver ongoing training and support to Counsellors
    • Assist the Assistant Program Director with planning the pastoral staff rota
    • Deliver an effective handover with other JDs before and after their shifts.

    Position Details

    • Requires a full US passport or Green Card right to work
    • Suitable for graduates looking for a rewarding summer job, living on a globally renowned US University campus
    • Based at one of our summer sites in Yale University for the month of July
    • Working hours will be approximately 50 hours per week across 6 days. This includes morning, afternoon, and night shifts as assigned by Campus Management
    • The weekly salary range is from $900 to $1,050 depending upon experience and assigned responsibilities, and is subject to satisfactory security background checks
    • Our courses are for international students aged 16-18, and run in 2-week sessions in July
    • Mandatory training and campus set up will take place during the week before student arrivals.

    Person Specification

    • A confident group leader who remains calm under conflicting pressures
    • Approachable and personable but with the ability to observe and communicate strict organisational schedules and codes of behaviour, in a firm and polite manner
    • A team player who is willing to thoroughly immerse themselves in Oxford Royale's courses, activities and events
    • Fluent speaker of English
    • Interest in supporting seminars and visits which enrich the US curricula in the subject areas of Business, Law, Engineering or Medicine
    • Good self-discipline, organisational and task completion skills
    • Someone who is passionate about working with international students of varying ages

    Essential Qualifications / Experience

    • Completed first graduate degree or about to graduate
    • Welfare, pastoral and safeguarding experience working with children and young people

    Desirable Experience

    • Able to lead activities in an area of specific interest in sports, the arts, technology, etc.
    • Knowledge of how vacation courses operate
    • Work achievements in positions involving customer service in hospitality, travel or event management
