Dean of Continuing Education manages administrative functions of the college of continuing education. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Continuing Education leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Electronic and Continuing Resources Librarian
  • Middlebury College

  • Oversees the library’s electronic and continuing resources, ensuring that they are widely accessible to the College community; helps promote the use of these resources; and coordinates the library’s response to access problems. This staff member plays a major supportive role in library systems functions, particularly those related to electronic resources and library collections.

    This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $53,035-66,314 per year.


    Core Responsibilities:

    • Lead the acquisition, implementation, and access workflows for electronic and continuing resources: manage trial processes; maintain licensing and administrative credentials in the library services platform (currently Alma); share information about new resources with the Middlebury community; confirm annual renewals and notify vendors about cancellations; work with Acquisitions to ensure invoices are paid; maintain accurate holdings in the library services platform; troubleshoot access problems; administer the authentication system (OpenAthens); assist in the review and management of license agreements and other contracts; and perform or support all other components of electronic and continuing resource management.
    • With an emphasis on electronic and continuing resources, support collection development and collections-related budget processes by assisting with allocations, expenditures, reporting, tracking, and analysis.
    • Collect, manage, and provide e-resource usage and related data, utilizing the SUSHI protocol and other analytics tools to produce reports that support subscription and collection development decisions; lead or support electronic and continuing resource assessment and reporting projects.
    • Assist with planning, implementation, and ongoing operation of present- and next-generation library services platforms, with an emphasis on collections and electronic resources functionality.
    • Manage relationships with vendors, publishers, and other providers of electronic and continuing resources including communication regarding business terms, troubleshooting, monitoring services and fees, evaluation of performance, and regular communication.
    • Keep current on trends, technologies, and best practices in electronic and continuing resource management including, but not limited to, acquisition, preservation, licensing, assessment, and scholarly communications, sharing this information with the library and College community as appropriate and recommending updates to current practice as needed.
    • Participate in the liaison librarian program contributing to research desk services and providing instruction to a small number of academic programs

    Requirements

    • Master’s degree in library or information science, or equivalent combination of education and experience (required).
    • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience managing electronic resources in a library setting (required).
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a range of stakeholders including library colleagues, students, faculty, staff, and vendors (required).
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility and the application of these principles to library collections and electronic resource management (required).
    • Initiative and a commitment to self-directed learning and continual professional development (required).
    • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to independently prioritize work and manage competing deadlines; and capacity to comfortably adapt to change (required).
    • Ability and willingness to learn new software, systems, and technology (required) and experience working in Alma/Primo (preferred).
    • Experience dealing with vendors and content providers, including subscription agents, publishers, and library consortia (preferred).

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions

    This is a largely sedentary position. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
