Dean of Continuing Education manages administrative functions of the college of continuing education. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Continuing Education leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Continuing Education requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Continuing Education manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Continuing Education typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. The successful candidate must take exam (when offered), pass the exam, and be reachable on the Rensselaer County Civil Service eligible list for Program Assistant, Academics (III) to qualify for permanent employment.

    PROGRAM ASSISTANT ACADEMICS III HV-CS-11924
    Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)
     
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution and three (3) years of experience in an office or customer service setting. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) preferred.  Strong communication skills.  Detailed oriented with excellent organization skills.
     
    PROMOTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:  One (1) year Permanent or Contingent Permanent competitive class status in the position of Program Assistant Academics II OR two (2) years Permanent or Contingent Permanent competitive class status in the position of Program Assistant Academics I at Hudson Valley Community College.
     
    DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Program Assistant, Academics III will report to theDean of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)or his/her designee and performs the following duties:
     
    • Under the general supervision of the Dean of STEM, provides high level clerical or paraprofessional assistance to students, faculty and administration of an academic department or departments.
     
    • Assists the Dean of STEM with data development and writing for annual reports and program reviews.
     
    • Develops office protocols and priorities for maximizing office productivity.
     
    • Devises and maintains complex file structures and data retrieval methods.
     
    • Produces routine and ad hoc reports from office file structures.
     
    • Develops and communicates information for faculty re: academic policies.
     
    • Does basic research to support course development and special initiatives.
     
    • Assists faculty with course material preparation.
     
    • Assists students with problem resolution; may contact other College Offices or resources as necessary.
     
    • Provides routine information to the public and external agencies as necessary.
     
    • Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
     
    Position is full-time 40-hours, 12 month, with an hourly rate of $20.29.
