Dean of Dentistry manages administrative functions of the college of dentistry. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Dentistry leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Dentistry requires an advanced degree of dentistry. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Dentistry manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Dentistry typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • Overview:
    The Dean of Students gives leadership to and is responsible for situations related to student discipline and student attendance, providing a climate in the school that is conducive to learning. The Dean of Students reports directly to the Principal and Assistant Principal and works in cooperation with other administrators who comprise the district Leadership Team.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Establish, regularly review, and enforce procedures regulating student behavior in the school that are consistent with the Secondary Student Handbook and with other Board policies.
    • Establish disciplinary procedures that afford due process to students.
    • Familiarize students, staff, and parents with disciplinary procedures.
    • Investigate behavioral problems referred to the office.
    • Develop and implement preventive discipline programs, including in-service programs for staff and students.
    • Assist in developing/revising student handbook annually.
    • Establish and enforce procedures regulating student attendance that are consistent with the Secondary Student Handbook and with other Board policies.
    • Establish attendance procedures that afford due process to students and that promote responsible work/study habits.
    • Familiarize students, staff, and parents with attendance procedures.
    • Act on attendance problems that occur or that are referred by faculty, guidance staff, or parents.
    • Organize and operate an efficient and accurate attendance system relative to the specific grade level.
    • Supervise and direct non-teaching personnel as assigned.
    • Provide for the appropriate supervision of student activities during lunch and noon recess periods.
    • Assist with the successful implementation and supervision of student co-curricular and extracurricular activities as assigned.

    Key Qualifications:
    • Must hold valid teaching license/certificate
    • Valid administrative license or certificate, or evidence of the completion of administrative program courses toward administrative licensure preferred
    • Proven experience in successful student discipline strategies, improving school culture, and working through challenging situations
    • Demonstrated experience in communicating and problem solving with students, parents, staff and community members
    • Demonstrated leadership capabilities
    • Must have full support of Building Principal(s), Director of Elementary or Secondary Education, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA):
    • Leadership Skills
      • Prompt response to disciplinary and attendance referrals, within 24 hours
      • Accurate record keeping.
      • Ongoing communication with staff, administrators, parents, and students
      • Establishment of the relationship of behavioral discipline and daily attendance to academic performance
      • Planning and organization
    • Understanding of statutory parameters, court cases, truancy regulations and Ohio Revised Code as they relate to student discipline and attendance.
    • Exhibit a belief that every student can succeed.
    • Exhibit a commitment to high expectations, values, and mission of the district.
    • Demonstrate technological literacy with intermediate or higher proficiency level.
    • Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
    • Exhibit initiative, drive, and perseverance to complete responsibilities as assigned.
    • Knowledge of and ability to implement conflict resolution strategies.
    • Exhibit a drive and passion for excellence and continual learning/professional growth.
