    Wayne County High SchoolAGRICULTURAL EDUCATION TEACHER (9-12) - This is a full-time position at Wayne County High School. The position is for 12 months and requires extended day responsibilities. Qualified candidates must hold a valid Georgia PSC (Professional Standards Commission) teaching certificate in Agricultural Education or be eligible to meet Wayne County Professional Qualification requirements in Agricultural Education by degree, semester hours, or GACE test. This candidate will teach three Ag classes per semester. Knowledge of all Ag Concentrations preferred with a focus on Forestry and Animal Science. Candidate should hold CDL or be willing to get CDL within two years to assist with Ag field trips. Start date July 1, 2024

    JOB GOAL: To teach assigned students the academic, social, and manipulative skills and abilities as directed by established curriculum and perform other duties relating to student safety, control, welfare, and growth.

    REPORTS TO: Principal and CTAE Director

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Bachelor degree in Education or related field with valid Georgia teaching certificate.
    2. Ability to relate well to students, parents, and co-workers,
    3. Physical demands - position requires significant standing and some sitting, kneeling and walking. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling will not normally exceed thirty (30) pounds, and will normally be in the area of ten (10) pounds. Must be able to move about the classroom and monitor student behavior.
    JOB DUTIES:
    1. Teach one or more subjects in the school, and within the framework of the goals established by the school system.
    2. Plan and implement appropriate long and short-range objectives for each assigned course.
    3. Instruct students in subject matter, utilizing various teaching methods such as lecture, demonstration, technology, and other materials to supplement presentations.
    4. Continually assess student abilities as relates to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
    5. Manage the behavior of learners to ensure the environment is conducive to the learning process, and assist in the management of student behavior in other parts of the school and school grounds.
    6. Work in a self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.
    7. Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student progress and behavior.
    8. Support and/or participate in school-wide student activities, social events, and fundraisers.
    9. Supervise paraprofessional performance, if applicable.
    10. Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and staff development opportunities.
    11. Perform other CTAE duties as assigned:
    Classroom Instruction
    • Teach local day agriculture classes
    • Conduct field trips, both in and out of district
    • Prepare collaborative lesson plans, demonstration plans, and teaching materials for all classes
    Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAE)
    • Visit students' SAE
    • Assist students in keeping SAE records
    • Assist students in exhibiting livestock, crops and agricultural mechanics projects at fairs and shows
    FFA
    • Serve as an advisor for the FFA chapter
    • Assist students in coordinating FFA activities at the local, area, region, state and national levels
    • Prepare and train FFA and agriculture contest teams and entries according to state standards
    • Assist students in preparing applications for FFA Scholarships, proficiency awards, state and American Degrees, etc.
    • Assist students in conducting a public relations program for the local FFA chapter and agriculture department.
    Other
    • Advise and coordinate the local FFA Alumni chapter
    • Prepare and track the budget for the agriculture program each year.
    • Coordinate, maintain inventories, and keep record of the agriculture resale accounts for classroom and shop supplies
    • Inventory the supplies and equipment of the agriculture program
    • Cooperate in maintaining, planning, and improving the physical facilities
    • Help maintain the land labs at Wayne County High School Ag Department
    • Complete and file required monthly reports with the State to maintain state funding
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Position works 230 days and extended day contract.

    EVALUATION: Performance is evaluated in accordance with the local personnel policy on certified evaluations and Georgia State DOE CTAE division standards and evaluation guidelines.
