Being a Dean of Fine Arts leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors.     Job Description:

    The Fine Arts department is recruiting a pool of applicants for day and evening adjunct teaching courses in the area of sculpture/3D. Successful candidate must possess the ability to share extensive knowledge of art history and contemporary practices, approaches, and movements in art. Specialization in a cross-cultural approach to curriculum development is encouraged. Strong candidates will foster an inclusive classroom learning environment with nondiscriminatory teaching methods towards learning difference, race, ethnicity, gender expression, sexuality, physical ability, socioeconomic, or immigration status.

    Our Fine Arts major area courses require the following skill sets:

    • FA114: Knowledge of basic tools, utility knives, assemblage and structural systems, and the ability to teach a strong foundation of fundamental 3D concepts.
    • FA161: Knowledge of sculpting the figure, ability to teach anatomy and building a full figure and portrait head using an armature working in clay.
    • FA261: Excellent working knowledge of woodshop and welding tools and a commitment to safety are required to teach this course. Skill-sets taught: wood tools such as table saw, bandsaw, jig saw, drill press, miter saw; welding tools using MIG welding and oxyacetylene. Ability to articulate shop-based skill sets relationship to contemporary art and practice.
    • FA361: Excellent working knowledge and use of the woodshop, welding tools, wax, plaster, stone, wood, and clay. Ability to articulate a contemporary approach to sculpture and assist students in the development of concept and form.
    • FA363: Expertise in mold making and casting using both traditional and non-traditional materials.

    Adjunct instructors deliver relevant course material, assess student performance, provide guidance and assistance to students both in and out of the classroom, and submit grades in a timely manner. Course descriptions are available online for and .


    Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Candidates must have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and/or Master of Fine Arts degree or equivalent.
    • At least one year teaching experience at the college level.
    • Ability to instruct and ensure the safe use of tools and machinery and successfully communicate conceptual ideas for class projects through lecture and visual presentations.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    • The ideal candidate will have comprehensive expertise in the use of sculptural processes and tools.
    • Effectively teach concepts and instruct and ensure the safely use tools and the shop.
    • Ability to communicate the historical, cultural and theoretical contexts and contemporary sculptural practices through lecture and visual presentations.
    • The ideal candidate must have the ability to write a syllabus, teach learning outcomes as listed in the course outline (provided), deliver relevant course materials with lectures and demonstrations, provide guidance, input, and assistance to students, assess student performance, and submit grades in a timely manner.
    • Effectively communicate and work with shop technicians.


    Additional Information:

    Starting Salary

    The UCE-FIT ) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. The hourly rate and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience.
