Dean of Graduate Programs manages administrative functions of the graduate program. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     • Position Purpose
    Under the guidance and direction of the Executive Vice President, the Dean provides leadership in the School of Workforce Development, including but not limited to the following: Leads both independent and collaborative projects to develop strategic employer partnerships that grow and expand experiential learning opportunities for the region and beyond; Establish, maintain, and progress training programs that will enhance all programs at Hocking College in conjunction with industry and educational partners; Leads initiatives for grant-funded projects.
    • Duties and Responsibilities
    • PARTICIPATES IN DEPARTMENT ACTVITIES AT THE DIRECTION OF THE EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT:
      • Leads faculty in several academic areas including Business, Fashion Design, Early Childhood Education, Film, Music, Sports Management, Skilled Trades, Hospitality, Heavy Equipment, Culinary Arts, and College Credit Plus.
      • Assists the Executive Vice President in creating and fostering relationships with industry partners across programs.
      • Assists the Executive Vice President to identify business and educational partners in need of training needs and promotes various approaches to experiential learning programs, incumbent training and on-site delivery of academic programs.
      • Acts as liaison with government, business, industry and special interest partners at the direction of the Executive Vice President.
      • Acts as a liaison to connect educational partners and students to employment opportunities.
      • Engages employers directly to promote programs and ensure industry needs are aligned and expectations are being met.
      • Creates strategic engagement plans for potential industry partners.
      • Manages the entrepreneurial activities of Hocking College including, but not limited to, The Lodge, the Canal Street Building, and the Rhapsody restaurant.
    • Serves as liaison for Workforce Development to OACC, the Ohio WFL and Governor’s Office for Workforce Transformation at the direction of the Executive Vice President.
    • Assists the Hocking College grants department in seeking and applying for funding as it relates to Workforce Development and Economic Development.
    • Serves on committees as assigned by the Executive Vice President.
    • PERFORMS STUDENT ACADEMIC PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT & ADVISING ACTIVITIES AT THE DIRECTION OF THE EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT:
      • Develops the academic schedule in concert with academic program leaders in the School of Workforce Development and the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
      • Assists with the recruitment and placement of students.
      • Coordinates with student groups and teams.
      • Encourages students’ involvement in the advising process; Maintains sufficient advising hours compatible with student schedules; directs students to appropriate department and College resources; maintain confidentiality; evaluates graduation progress and completions.
      • Keeps track of student progress in cross disciplines and updating student records.
      • Reviews graduation applications prior to final approval by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
      • Maintains apprentice and other on-the-job training records. Receives information from apprentice or student on-the-job training participants and maintains master record file.
      • Interacts with apprentices and other on-the-job training participants, managers, human resource managers, instructors, journeypersons and others involved with the program.
      • Provide journeypersons and management with training on apprentice program in order to support and facilitate requirements for a quality experience.
      • Supports students with college applications, registration, participating in orientations, testing and advising.
    • Proactively identify and implement methods for publicizing and promoting the activities of the COLLEGE AT THE DIRECTION OF THE EXECUTIVE VICE pRESIDENT:
      • Assists in the college marketing department in developing program related materials (e.g., publications, web page, annual report).
      • Promotes sales and marketing of corporate education and training primarily by ensuring high quality processes.
      • Markets the program to students, prospective students and other interested parties.
      • Facilitates advisory committee involvement in all programs within the unit.
      • Works with TechPrep coordinator to develop articulation agreements with Career Technical, traditional secondary schools and related industry.
      • Works with the Director of College Credit Plus to develop and foster pathways.
      • Represents program(s) at recruiting events, on and off campus.
      • Collaborates and provides programming for career/program exploration camps.
      • Participates in program relevant community & networking events.
    • PARTICIPATES IN ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AND INSTITUTIONAL ACTIVITIES AT THE DIRECTION OF THE EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT:
      • Identifies best practices from peer institutions, industry partners and communities of interest that support the overall project scope and quality.
      • Is familiar with the mission and philosophy of Hocking College;
      • Follows Hocking College policies and procedures;
      • Promotes a positive working relationship across technology, department, and community lines;
      • Participates in Academic Affairs and institutional activities and committees;
      • Participates in student enrollment activities (recruiting and registration), contribute to the assessment of student academic achievement.
      • Provides consistency within faculty and departments with apprenticeships and other school to work programs.
    • Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills:
      • Master’s degree required. Doctoral degree preferred.
      • Experience in managing high level projects.
      • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
      • Strong technology skills including usage of Microsoft Office, email, student information system, and learning management system
      • Organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills.
      • Knowledge of apprenticeship system, legislation and regulations respecting the apprenticeship programs and a working knowledge of postsecondary education.
      • Knowledge of apprenticeship model of training.
      • Knowledge of accreditation policy/programs.
      • Knowledge of trades, clients and cultural diversity, and a working knowledge of trends in the industry.
      • Knowledge of trade certification.
      • Working knowledge of applicable government policies and priorities, and other agencies’ mandates and activities.
      • Interest in and commitment to the learner-centered educational process.
      • Educational technology skills.
