Dean of Graduate Programs manages administrative functions of the graduate program. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Graduate Programs leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Graduate Programs requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Graduate Programs manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Graduate and Special Programs Coordinator reports to the Department Chair of Biology. He/she is responsible for recruitment, as well as development, implementation, and monitoring of all programs in the Department of Biology, both undergraduate and graduate. The candidate will be responsible for enhancement of recruitment and enrollment at career days/college fairs and graduate school visits. Successful candidate will advise prospective students regarding admission requirements, academic programs, financial aid referrals, residential opportunities, student organizations, student internships, and the tracking of internship/employment/professional school outcomes. He/she will assist with annual reports. Successful candidate will lead in development of marketing materials including letters, brochures, newsletters, website postings, electronic mail, and social media. He/she will remain competent and current through professional development courses and networking with colleagues. He/she will plan an annual Department of Biology/Biotechnology Advisory Board Meeting, ensuring that all records of meetings are well-documented. He/she will perform any other duties within the scope of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in science is strongly preferred. Bachelor’s degree in science or related discipline is required. The applicant must possess knowledge of course and major requirement for the biology curricula. The successful candidate must have strong computer skills (Microsoft office programs, adobe acrobat, and data management), excellent writing and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and planning skills, and demonstrated ability to work well with team members.
