  • The Dean of Learning Excellence and Sponsored Programs promotes the academic success of Northern students through the implementation and coordination of professional training, development, and support for faculty and the design, implementation, and coordination of wrap-around services for students. The Dean of Learning Excellence and Sponsored Programs oversees the Director of the Office of Teaching and Learning Excellence and the Grants Coordinator to ensure faculty have the resources and training necessary to teach effectively, whether in-person or online, and access to grant-based funding that augments the capacity and quality of faculty teaching and research. The Dean of Learning Excellence and Sponsored Programs also oversees the Directors of all grant-funded, institutional, student support programs including, but not limited to Student Support Services (TRIO), Little River Institute (NASNTI), and Veterans Upward Bound (TRIO) and oversees all institution-wide student success grant awards to ensure each remains in compliance with respect to any stipulations required by the granting entity and any related State and Federal rules regulations. The Dean of Learning Excellence and Sponsored Programs is a senior leader of the Grant Support Team and contributes to the development and implementation of all sponsored programs – related policies and procedures at the campus level. The Dean of Learning Excellence and Sponsored Programs leads all direct reports in providing innovative solutions to the changing support needs of faculty and students, identifies and pursues grant funding to support these solutions, and stays abreast of best practices in higher education to ensure student support is accessible, equitable, and effective.
    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Oversee the Director of OTLE to ensure faculty need for development and support is met with innovative best practices and that faculty engagement in development and support opportunities is robust.
    • Oversee the Director of OTLE to ensure faculty and student need for LMS training and support is met with innovative best practices and that engagement in training and support is robust.
    • Facilitate communication and coordination between the Director of OTLE and support services programs on campus to provide consistent student support that is streamlined and seamless.
    • Oversee and mentor the Grants Coordinator in the development of and growth of an Office of Sponsored Programs.
    • Oversee and mentor the Directors of Northern’s grant-funded, student support programs (e.g., LRI, SS, VUB) in program design and implementation and throughout the grant writing/ renewal process.
    • Facilitate the development of streamlined academic and wrap-around student support through strategic collaboration between programs within the office and other key stakeholders on campus (e.g., Tutoring Committee).
    • Ensure direct reports monitor deadlines for projects and awards within their purview to ensure timely progress and reporting compliance with respect to any and all applicable state and federal rules and regulations.
    • Develop and submit required reports for institutional student success grants not directly under the purview of a direct report within the office of Learning Excellence and Sponsored Programs
    • Serve as a senior leader on the Grant Support Team and contribute to the development and implementation of sponsored programs – related policies and procedures as well as the enforcement of such policies
    • Assist the Grants Coordinator in developing a proactive sponsored programs culture among faculty, staff, and the institution as a whole through long-term grants planning
    • Work closely and consult with the MSUN Institutional Review Board to ensure researchers have the necessary tools to easily navigate the IRB approval process.
    • Represent Northern at related System and campus-wide events, meetings, and training as determined by the Office of the Provost
    • Stay up-to-date on effective initiatives related to faculty development and student support.
    • Assess student success in general and with respect to the services provided by the office of Learning Excellence and Sponsored Programs, communicate the results of the assessment to the campus community, update programs and services based on assessment results, and development recommendations for the Provost regarding updates in other areas of Academic Affairs that may further positively impact student success

    • Doctorate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Extensive experience developing and implementing faculty or staff training opportunities
    • Experience developing and/or evaluating successful grant applications for either government grants or grants from non-government agencies
    • Knowledge of, and experience with, best practices related to learning management system technology
    • Experience leading a team of multiple offices
    • Extensive experience working in a higher education environment
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across an organization to improve outcomes and efficiencies
    • Experience in program and/or initiative assessment, including closing the loop
    • Experience collecting and analyzing data
    • Experience communicating data analysis to a general or broad audience

    Title IX Coordinator

    The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the University’s compliance with federal and state discrimination and harassment laws, including Title IX.
