Dean of Humanities manages administrative functions of the college of humanities. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Humanities leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Humanities requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Humanities manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     The Associate Dean of Emergency Services works with faculty, staff, and CVTC leadership to improve and enhance program effectiveness through planning and delivery of curriculum, the supervision and evaluation of faculty and program support staff, and scheduling of courses and instructors. This leadership position reports to the Executive Dean of Allied Health and Emergency Services. Responsibilities include directing all aspects of the Law Enforcement Academy, ensuring continuing program operation on a day-to-day and long-term basis in areas such as budgeting, scheduling, and meeting operational and equipment needs, as well as oversight of various initiatives that are part of the emergency services programs and motorcycle safety continuing education. Responsibilities may include instruction in the Law Enforcement Academy as well as public safety offerings internally and externally.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Focus all actions and decision-making in alignment with the College Vision, Mission and Strategic Plan.

    • Assist in seeking outside resources through grant acquisitions and CVTC Foundation fund raising efforts.
    • Participate in professional development and life-long learning endeavors.
    • Oversight of emergency services programs in collaboration with Executive Dean and Fire Training & EMS Continuing Education Manager, ensuring quality of instruction to achieve strategic plan. Additional programs may be added to accommodate college needs.
    • Coordinate requirements of Law Enforcement Academy, Jail Academy, and related continuing education with Wisconsin Department of Justice Bureau of Training and Standards.
    • Implementation of College goals within courses and programs.
    • Communication with all employees and maintenance of a successful team environment.
    • Supervise support staff, work studies or other college employees as necessary
    • Interaction with and utilization of function teams in the CVTC system.
    • Cost effective operation of all campus programs.
    • Coordinate appropriate staffing for efficient/effective operation of programs.
    • Facilitate the development and implementation of new programs and continuing education opportunities, and program modifications to meet the needs of industries, agencies, and individuals in the region, and external agency standards.
    • Assist programs going through accreditation.
    • Facilitate division grant projects and grant reporting.
    • Coordinate scheduling of program courses and continuing education for the community.
    • Employee performance evaluations.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with industry and educational partners.
    • Support the development of career pathway options for current and prospective students.
    • Oversight of appropriate staffing for learning and effective/efficient operation of assigned programs and departments; facilitate faculty selection process and evaluation.
    • Performance evaluation of program and department personnel in accordance with CVTC policies and procedures.
    • Continual development of program and department personnel.
    • Participate in various committees and college leadership functions, and attend College Board meetings as needed.
    • Participate on appropriate college teams and contribute to accomplishing the goals and objectives of the team(s).
    • Prepare, coordinate and monitor capital equipment and operational budgets for assigned programs to comply with the College’s fiscal plan.
    • Facilitate communication between program faculty
    • Assist with advisory committee selection and operations.
    • Oversight of the Emergency Service Education Center campus, outlying buildings, physical plant and property.
    • Accomplishment of learning outcomes, quality measures, and overall institutional effectiveness and productivity measures established for the programs.
    • Intervene in student and faculty issues.
    • Promote programs and campuses consistent with the College plan.

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of one- and two-year technical college programs including Department of Justice requirements for law enforcement programs and Department of Health Services requirements for emergency medical services.
    • Ability to organize and multi-task

    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently toward department goals.

    Qualifications

    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, or master’s degree in progress.
    • Minimum of three years of full-time, or at least 6,000 hours, occupational experience as a certified law enforcement officer in the state of Wisconsin or another state with at least 2,000 hours within the last five years.
    • Minimum of two years teaching experience required, experience at postsecondary level preferred.
    • Supervisory experience in a team management environment preferred.
    • Experience with staff development and evaluation preferred.
    • Experience with strategic planning and quality improvement preferred.
