Being a Dean of Humanities leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. 23.24 Middle School Humanities Teacher

Job Summary
Working as a teacher at Columbia Independent School requires a wide variety of abilities but also offers
a deeply rewarding experience. This is a school where you will know your students well and be their
learning guides over time not only in your content area but also in their social-emotional growth. The
teacher must have a deep curiosity about and proficiency understanding of the humanities broadly
defined, including but not limited to English style, literature, history, and the social sciences, as well as
a love for the subject that can be transferred to the students of various ages, abilities, and interests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Seeking teachers with the ability and desire to teach all or some of the following: 6th Grade
English, 6th Grade Introduction to Social Studies, one or more middle- or upper-school elective
courses (based on candidate expertise and interest).
Update and create rigorous and engaging curriculum in conjunction with the departmental goals
Work with students on an individual basis (as needed) outside of regularly scheduled class
times
Provide regular feedback (written and verbal) to students and parents
Update learning management course page assignments on a daily basis
Update electronic grade books on a regular basis
Attend faculty, divisional, and departmental meetings as scheduled
Prepare progress reports and conduct conferences for students and parents
Collaborate with other departments on cross-curricular connections
Other Duties
Serve as an advisor to a group of 10-12 students
Serve as an advisor for an academic club or social activity
Provide support for and chaperone middle school functions (field trips, socials, etc.)
Attend professional development opportunities
Model life-long learning through personal and professional growth
Serve as an ambassador for the school at Open Houses and other admissions or public
relations activities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in the humanities or related field
Teaching experience preferred
Demonstrated passion for working with students of middle and/or upper school ages and an
understanding of the developmental needs of the age groups
Working knowledge of current technology used in humanities education, with a willingness to
learn more
