Dean of Humanities manages administrative functions of the college of humanities. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Humanities leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Humanities requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Humanities manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Humanities typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • The Department of English, Literature and Modern Languages in the School of Arts and Humanities at Cedarville University is accepting applications for an Administrative Assistant. This is a full-time (1733-hours), non-exempt, staff position.

    The Department of English, Literature, and Modern Languages (ELML) Administrative Assistant provides day-to-day organization for ELML undergraduate programs and processes, assisting the department chair, faculty, adjunct faculty, and students.

    Primary responsibilities include working with the Chair to coordinate day-to-day departmental operations, maintaining the department calendar, generating correspondence on behalf of the chair and the department, managing department phone inquiries; planning, organizing, and preparing materials for department events, faculty meetings, CU Friday events, student orientation, majors meetings, awards ceremonies, and special speakers; assisting with budget oversight including purchase orders, requisitions, budget transfers, credit card statements, and other financial processes; managing interoffice mail and printed department materials; organizing and maintaining department files; generating enrollment, faculty workload, and course scheduling reports; communicating with adjuncts regarding scheduling and contracts, organizing and proofreading course schedules for the department, organizing office inventory, interacting with students, and performing other tasks as required by the department.

    This position is subject to the University's verification of credentials and other information required by law and Cedarville University policies, including the successful completion of a background check. This position is located in Cedarville, Ohio.

    Position Requirements

    • A four-year undergraduate degree is preferred. A minimum of an Associate’s degree is required.
    • Previous administrative office experience is desired.
    • Proficiency in the use of technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and Microsoft Office applications (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse constituencies.
    • Excellent and proven office support skills.
    • Proven ability to perform general mathematical calculations.
    • Proven ability to serve all constituencies in a friendly, professional, and responsive manner.
    • Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information professionally.
    • Ability to coordinate support services for daily and long-range office needs.
    • Ability to multitask, prioritize, plan, schedule, work independently, and meet deadlines.
