Dean of Law manages administrative functions of the college of law. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Law leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Law requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Law manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Law typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Duties:
- Conduct legal research and analysis on various topics
- Assist with document review and preparation
- Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and contracts
- Review and analyze case files and trial transcripts
- Assist with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits and witness statements
- Attend court hearings and other legal proceedings as needed
- Collaborate with attorneys to develop case strategies
- Utilize legal databases such as Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis for research purposes
- Perform other administrative tasks as assigned
Qualifications:
- JD preferred. 3L considered.
- Strong knowledge of legal principles and procedures
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
- Proficiency in legal drafting and document preparation
- Familiarity with criminal law and litigation processes
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Proficient in using computer software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite
