Dean of Mathematics manages administrative functions of the college of mathematics. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Mathematics leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Mathematics requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Mathematics manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Mathematics typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:


    Teaching: Teaching four sections of mathematics, ideally statistics and economics, preparing course objectives and course of study following departmental guidelines and curriculum, conducting varied and frequent assessments of student performance, utilizing appropriate technology in the classroom setting, keeping attendance and grade records as required by school, writing individual grade and comment reports six times a year with additional progress reports as assigned, maintaining regularly scheduled office hours for help sessions with students, attending faculty meetings and professional development opportunities provided by the school


    Residential: This position will participate in all aspects of the school including participation in our student life program which includes advisory to a group of students, chaperoning student activities, and student support.


    Co-Curricular: All faculty members will participate in a co-curricular within our experiential program which may include coaching, community engagement, outdoor education or arts assignments.


    Communication: Communicating positively and proactively with students, advisers, parents, colleagues, and administration in professional manner in both oral and written form


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    The position requires a person who has experience teaching adolescents and enjoys working with and relates well to both adults and students, is collaborative, and communicates well. This faculty member needs to be organized as well as possess excellent technology skills. The mathematics department member holds a full-time faculty position and two-thirds of the faculty position is devoted to teaching mathematics. The mathematics department member carries out additional responsibilities such as residential and/or co-curricular assignments. Individual will need to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of an ever-changing boarding school environment.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Experience with technology applications such as use of a MacBook Pro and iPad for teaching purposes.
    • Prior experience in teaching mathematics and curriculum development preferred.
    • A valid driver’s license and ability to drive students in a 9-passenger van.
