Dean of Mathematics manages administrative functions of the college of mathematics. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Mathematics leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Mathematics requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Mathematics manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Mathematics typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.       POSITION DESCRIPTION

      The selected candidate will be responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. This person will also be responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with GPPSS policies, goals and objectives.

      PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS

      • Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate and vocational certificates
      • EX endorsement required
      • Significant experience and/or coursework in related fields
      • Related academic endorsements preferred

      POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Ability to implement and instruct established Grosse Pointe Curriculum
      • Includes culturally diverse themes in lessons and instruction, including historical or other information as to cultures having significant impact on the world, nation or community.
      • Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
      • Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
      • Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
      • Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
      • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
      • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
      • Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
      • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
      • Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
      • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools.
      • Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.
      • Demonstrates gains in student performance.
      • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating.
      • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

      • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom.

      • Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork.

      Compensation:

      Salary is based on the GPEA CBA, which may or may not recognize previous professional teaching experience. GPEA Members are also eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including health/dental/vision/life and long-term disability insurance.
