Dean of Mathematics manages administrative functions of the college of mathematics. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Mathematics leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Mathematics requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Mathematics manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Mathematics typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     General Information: Adjunct faculty teaching is limited to a maximum of 8 credit hours in the summer semester, 12 credit hours in the fall semester, and 12 credit hours in the spring semester. These limits are for total number of credit hours taught in the Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS). Additional restrictions may apply depending upon other positions occupied within VCCS.

    Responsibilities: The Division of Mathematics, Natural & Behavioral Sciences at Brightpoint Community College augments full-time teaching faculty with qualified part-time instructors to enhance the student learning process. Provide traditional delivery instruction on either the Chester or Midlothian campus of the college. Courses offered in the discipline include various courses in developmental math, Introduction to Mathematics, Mathematics for Liberal Arts I-II, Precalculus I-II, Statistics, Applied Statistics, and Calculus I-II. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.

    Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Minimum of a master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours of coursework in the specific discipline. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Additional Considerations: Prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level. Ability to use instructional technologies.
