Dean of Mathematics manages administrative functions of the college of mathematics. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Mathematics leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Mathematics requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Mathematics manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Mathematics typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     POSITION SUMMARY

    This is a full-time faculty position in Mathematics at Chemeketa Community College. Expertise and experience in Statistics and Data Science are highly desired. Responsibilities of this position include teaching developmental as well as college-level mathematics courses, service on departmental and college-wide committees, curriculum development, student advising, evaluation of instructional materials, use of technology and participation in college activities.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    Instructional Program Responsibilities

    • Participates in curriculum development; recommends course outline revisions
    • Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials and equipment; recommends library and reference materials
    • Contributes suggestions for annual department budget
    • Keeps up to date on technological changes and developments in subject area
    • Attends staff meetings and participates in designated committee work; represents the department at pertinent meetings as required
    • Promotes positive image of college and college programs
    • Develops and maintains contacts with community and professional organizations
    • Functions as a life-long learner

    Instruction

    • Instructs mathematics classes utilizing knowledge of the discipline and teaching practice that facilitates student learning
    • Meets all scheduled and special classes-day, possible evening and week-ends
    • Teaches classes as assigned, following approved course outlines
    • Prepares and develops materials for assigned classes
    • Posts and maintains office hours
    • Provides students with course syllabi
    • Maintains records of grades and attendance; reports individual academic grades when required
    • Maintains college facilities and equipment
    • Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online

    Minimum Qualifications

    A Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Mathematics or Statistics
    ------OR-----
    A Master's Degree from an accredited institution in a related field with at least 30
    graduate-level credits in mathematics or Statistics

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Teaching experience and/or work experience in Statistics or Data Science

    • Broad range of coursework topics in math at the graduate level
    • Experience or demonstrated interest in working with adult, non-traditional and underrepresented learners in both developmental and transfer courses
    • Experience with or a demonstrated understanding of various instructional methods
    • Experience or demonstrated interest in innovative teaching practices and student engagement
    • Experience integrating emerging technology into teaching and learning
    • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in projects and initiatives
    • Demonstrated experience in community, state or national professional communities
    • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    • This is a 100%, 10-month (172 Duty Day) faculty assignment of the F9 band and grade
    • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
    • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
    • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
    • If requested, you must supply official transcripts within 30-days of hire
    • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Even though weight lifted may be negligible, it may be rated light work if frequent walking and/or standing is required.
