Dean of Nursing manages administrative functions of the college of nursing. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Nursing leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Nursing requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires certification as a registered nurse. The Dean of Nursing manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Nursing typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Responsibilities:

    • Provide visionary leadership to the nursing department, overseeing all nursing operations and ensuring the delivery of compassionate and comprehensive care to our residents.
    • Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and protocols in compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as industry best practices.
    • Foster a culture of excellence in nursing practice, promoting ongoing professional development, training, and continuing education opportunities for nursing staff.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, therapists, social workers, and administrators, to develop and implement individualized care plans that meet the unique needs of each resident.
    • Monitor and evaluate the quality of nursing care provided, conducting regular audits, assessments, and performance reviews to maintain high standards of care.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, ensuring adherence to confidentiality and privacy policies.
    • Develop and manage the nursing department budget, allocating resources effectively and efficiently to meet the needs of residents.
    • Prepare nursing and CNA schedules, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and skill mix to provide optimal care.
    • Recruit and hire talented, driven care team staff in accordance with facility staff needs.
    • Foster a positive work environment, promoting open communication, teamwork, and professional growth among nursing staff.
    • Serve as a resource and advocate for residents and their families, addressing concerns, providing support, and ensuring a person-centered care approach.

    Qualifications:

    • Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience, preferably in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting.
    • Proven leadership experience in nursing management, with a demonstrated ability to effectively lead and motivate a team of nursing professionals.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to skilled nursing and long-term care facilities.
    • Strong understanding of nursing best practices, quality improvement initiatives, and infection control protocols.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with residents, families, and staff members.
    • Proficient computer skills, including experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
    • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care, with a commitment to ensuring the well-being and dignity of all residents.
