Dean of Nursing manages administrative functions of the college of nursing. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Nursing leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Nursing requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires certification as a registered nurse. The Dean of Nursing manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Nursing typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA), the Assistant Dean for Academic Support amp; Services will administer and oversee all programming and functions that serve the diverse needs of Jefferson College of Nursing (JCN) students.

    Essential Functions:

    • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the core values of the University.
    • Determines the strategic direction of student affairs services that balance elements of student advocacy with college and university priorities in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA).
    • Develops and implements a comprehensive plan for recruitment, retention, and support for students from diverse backgrounds:
    • Serves as a key point of contact for the Office of Student Affairs, Vice Provost for Academic Infrastructure, and the Office of Admissions to assure a cohesive suite of student centric services and support;
    • Develops programs for current and potential students that strengthen the academic portfolio of the College while supporting an environment of inclusion.
    • Leads engagement in recruitment and retention efforts directed at students across all degree levels;
    • Leads communication and dissemination of support and student life services available within the College and University to all students within the College and new students during orientation programming, and;
    • Assists students with accessing disability services, tutoring services, student health insurance, student activities and organizations, and pre-matriculation requirements.
    • Develops (in collaboration with the ADAA) and disseminates, through written and oral communications to faculty and students, all new, existing, and revised academic policies, degree requirements and procedures. Incorporates same into the JCN Student Handbook and website, as appropriate and in alignment with University policies and procedures.
    • Serves as an initial point of contact for student complaints, appeals, grievances, and policy deviations/violations:
    • Assembles comprehensive information from relevant sources, conducts inquiries with involved parties, recommends actions to resolve issues, and/or elevates matter to ADAA when appropriate;
    • Facilitates timely and responsive communication among college leadership, faculty, and students regarding academic difficulties, accommodations for disabilities, non-compliance with registration, enrollment, and clearance policies and procedures, and students on leaves of absence.
    • Directs the preparation of surveys and benchmark studies for the College in collaboration with the Director of Assessment and Outcomes. Analyzes, interprets, and reports trends in survey data to recommend, develop, implement, and revise support to address student needs and provide responsive programming.
    • Serves as JCNrsquo;s representative on college- and university-level committees relating to student support, services, and life.
    • Doctoral degree in an area of specialization or in progress with a minimum of 3 years experience in student affairs preferred
    • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage diverse organizational and planning initiatives
    • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and multi-task
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Competency in working with people from diverse backgrounds and with diverse life experiences
    • Flexible, resilient, and able to work collaboratively to plan programming and resolve student issues
    • Basic knowledge of higher education structure and function
    • High degree of fluency/knowledge of contemporary challenges in nursing education and ability to generate relevant/appropriate solutions
    • High level of motivation to develop expertise in the realm of student affairs related to relevant laws, policies and Title IX regulations

    Certificates, Licenses, And Registration:
    Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    State Board of Nursing licensure for states where clinical assignments performed
    Professional specialty certification as applicable to teaching assignment
    Evidence of continuing education; Professional memberships relevant to areas of expertise

    Experience Requirements:

    Evidence of scholarship, other than doctoral dissertation, which may be demonstrated by contributions to the professional literature, presentations at national, state, or local meetings and/or grantsmanship

    Participation in College and/or University Committees

    Participation in professional organizations at local, state or national levels

    Faculty rank and salary commensurate with experience
