Additionally, Dean of Pharmacy requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Pharmacy manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Position Summary
    The Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Dean of Health Sciences. This senior administrative position will play a pivotal role in advancing academic excellence, research initiatives, and collaborative efforts within the institution’s Health Sciences programs. This individual will proactively lead the growth of health science education at the institution into a future that aligns with our strategic plan and collaborates with high schools, other academic institutions, and healthcare partners to broaden the opportunities for those seeking a career in health sciences. Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and as a member of the president’s cabinet collaborating with senior leadership of the organization, the successful candidate will provide oversight of the Health Science Programs, departments, faculty, staff, and students at the institution and oversee the Collaboratory. Due to their academic and administrative roles, The Dean, Health Sciences, will interact with a broad range of college constituencies. This includes faculty, students, alumni, trustees, departmental staff, and external stakeholders. Working closely with the Vice President for Academic Affairs, other members of the Academic Affairs leadership team, the Dean of Pharmacy and other members of the president’s cabinet, the Health Sciences Dean is expected to drive strategic initiatives and foster interdisciplinary collaboration within and outside the institution.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Academic Leadership
      • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for all Health Sciences initiatives, departments, and programs within the institution.
      • Foster a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty, staff, and students within and outside the institution.
      • Oversee curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes to ensure program quality and compliance with industry standards.
      • Support faculty and staff development, mentoring, and promotion to enhance teaching effectiveness and scholarly productivity.
      • Stay abreast of trends, advancements, and best practices in Health Sciences education and integrate them into the curriculum and program offerings.
      • Work to resolve student issues in collaboration with cabinet colleagues, as appropriate, and in accordance with applicable laws and established programs, institutional, and New York State policies and procedures.
      • Provide oversight of initiatives (accreditation, strategic planning, growth, administration, and operations) that pertain to Health Sciences.
    • Collaborative Oversight
      • Lead the Collaboratory, a dynamic center for interdisciplinary research, innovation, and community engagement within the institution by supervising the Collaboratory Director.
      • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to promote collaborative research projects, grant funding opportunities, and industry partnerships.
      • Facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration among the institution’s faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders by building collaborations on and off-campus: advances in education and instruction, approaches to meet an evolving higher education landscape, approaches to measure and maximize institutional effectiveness, address complex healthcare challenges, and advance knowledge in the field.
      • Works collaboratively with senior leadership, the strategic plan pillar champions and leads to execute key aspects of the strategic plan related to area of expertise and oversight.
    • Administrative Management
      • Manage budgetary, personnel, and operational aspects of the Health Sciences programs and initiatives.
      • Develops and executes rules, regulations, policies and procedures that are useful for the welfare of the institution, its students, faculty, alumni, and other constituents.
      • Recruit, hire, and retain qualified faculty and staff to support the institution’s mission and strategic priorities.
      • Collaborate with academic departments, administrative units, centers, and external stakeholders to promote the integration of Health Sciences education and research across the institution.
      • Liaise with enrollment management as appropriate for maximum growth.
      • Foster a culture of inclusivity, equity, and diversity within the Health Sciences programs and initiatives.
      • Analyze internal processes and in collaboration with cabinet colleagues, make recommendations for process improvement to drive efficiencies and improve execution.
      • Develops and delivers formal reports, proformas and presentations summarizing meaningful findings and recommendations for the President, Board of Trustees, Cabinet and external stakeholders as appropriate.
    • External Engagement
      • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with healthcare organizations, research institutions, government agencies, and industry stakeholders to enhance experiential learning opportunities, research collaborations, and funding support.
      • Represent the institution and the Health Sciences programs at professional conferences, community events, and other external forums to promote the institution’s reputation and visibility.
      • Collaborate with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and other members of the President’s Cabinet to explore and develop new initiatives, joint programs, and educational pathways that align with the institution’s strategic goals.
      • Develops community relationships and transformational Initiatives that align with the institution’s mission.

    Required Qualifications
    • An earned doctoral degree in a Health Sciences discipline or a related field from an accredited institution. Candidate has demonstrated progressive academic leadership with at least 8 years of academic experience.
    • Candidate must be a Full Professor or eligible to serve as a full professor of the institution.
    • To be successful in this role, the candidate must demonstrate aptitude in the three academic areas of responsibility: teaching, scholarship, and service.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience in academic administration, preferably in a higher education setting.
    • Strong record of scholarly achievement, research productivity, and grant funding in Health Sciences or related areas.
    • Experience in curriculum development, accreditation processes, and program assessment within Health Sciences education.
    • Proven ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, build partnerships, and promote innovation in research and education.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Demonstrated knowledge of academic principles, practices, and procedures.
    • Demonstrated administrative and budget experience.
    • A leader with proven positive interpersonal skills and experience in growing programs. Strong collaborator, strategic thinker, and leader with proven record of getting things done.
    • Familiarity with concept-based curriculums or other innovative curricular models.
    • Experience with alternative pedagogies such as service-learning, learning communities, distance and hybrid learning, and simulation.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and learning management systems.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written expression.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Experience working in a diverse environment, uniting faculty, staff, and the student body. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of academic and administrative leadership.
