Dean of Students
Middle School
Position Available: August 2024
Salary Range: $55,000 - $59,000
SUMMARY:
The Middle School Dean of Students is a highly visible position and plays a critical role in leading a positive school culture. As a member of the middle school administrative team, the Dean is expected to have a pulse on the school community by collaborating with students and faculty in the different aspects of school life. Candidates for the position will have strong interpersonal skills and be able to set clear expectations for conduct. The Dean supports the daily operations of the Middle School, especially those pertaining to attendance, discipline and student activities. Moreover, a successful candidate will show interest in understanding pre-adolescent development and promoting the well-being of all students while leading with an energy, sense of humor and warmth that cultivates a sense of belonging within the middle school community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS (Other duties may be assigned)
- Supervise students during passing time in halls and grounds, the lunchroom and at school activities.
- Conduct regular inspections of the school building and grounds for safety.
- Handles all student attendance and disciplinary matters.
- Work with the administration teachers, parents, and students to promote and maintain a quality learning environment.
- Maintain a working knowledge of building operations.
- Help with the general operation of the school.
- Maintain communications with the community in general and parents specifically.
- Present a positive image of the school to parents, students, and faculty.
- Keep complete, up-to-date and accurate records as required and complete semester and year-end attendance/discipline reports.
- Take a leadership role in the PBIS Positive School Climate initiative.
- Work with Kent County Truancy Office and manage truancy process.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
- At least three years of classroom teaching experience and two years of administrative or supervisory-related experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to manage sensitive and sometimes confidential information
