Dean of Students provides strategic initiatives and direction for student affairs. Ensures the delivery of effective and quality service to students in the following areas: student housing, counseling, student conduct, and orientation. Being a Dean of Students counsels the top management regarding overall student morale and services. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Dean of Students typically reports to top management. The Dean of Students manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. JOB GOAL:
Counsels and disciplines students; supervises teacher classroom management; performs administrative tasks, monitors student’s attendance, and creates a safe and orderly school environment.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
o Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university.
o Two years teaching experience
o Master’s degree from accredited college or university is preferred.
o LPC or intern in a counseling program preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Counsel and Discipline students.
o Supervise teacher classroom management.
o Train staff on student code of conduct and implementation of discipline.
o Maintain records of disciplinary actions taken to ensure that the student code of conduct is administered properly.
o Communicate with parents and key stakeholders regarding student discipline and safety.
o Monitor students’ attendance.
o Maintain a safe and orderly school environment.
o Coordinate before and after school programs and clubs.
o Monitor the school ground actively for safety checks.
o Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
o Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.
o Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone.
o Ability to analyze data
o Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills
o Knowledge of child and adolescent behavior issues and psychology
o Management and supervisory skill and/or training and experience
o Ability to identify problems and proactively find solutions
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
o Light Work: may require occasional light lifting.
o Nights and weekend activities will be occasionally required.
o Position is in office setting and may involve prolonged work at a desk in one location.
o Moderate travel is required.
