Dean of Students provides strategic initiatives and direction for student affairs. Ensures the delivery of effective and quality service to students in the following areas: student housing, counseling, student conduct, and orientation. Being a Dean of Students counsels the top management regarding overall student morale and services. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Dean of Students typically reports to top management. The Dean of Students manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Students typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for the discipline, behavior and social emotional support of students and staff in addition to maintaining contact with parents regarding disciplinary matters as established by the SCCPSS Code of Conduct and school administration.

    REPORTS TO: Principal
    SALARY SCHEDULE: Assistant Principal
    WORK DAYS: 200

    REQUIRED:
    • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • GaPSC issued Professional, Clear-Renewable Certification.
    • 5 years of successful teaching experience or experience as a school counselor
    • Leadership Certificate

    PREFERRED: Advanced Degree

    Experience, Skill and Certification:

    REQUIRED:
    • At least three years of successful performance working with children with learning and behavioral difficulties (could be classroom based).
    • Demonstrated skills in leadership, conflict resolution, and effective communication necessary to work with students, staff, parents, administrators, and the community.
    • Knowledgeable/experience in effective De-escalation strategies.
    • Demonstrated skills in classroom/student behavioral management.
    • Demonstrated skills in keeping records, managing and understanding data, and preparing and presenting reports.
    • Knowledge of federal and state laws, district policies, and instructional best practices.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Assess and resolve student behaviors that disrupt the learning process or safety of students or staff.
    2. Administer one-to-one intensive behavior intervention to students.
    3. Actively participates in behavior intervention meetings and professional development.
    4. Confer with parents and students relating to behavioral adjustment and academic goals.
    5. Assist counselors with peer mediation groups.
    6. Supports Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) initiatives.
    7. Assist all school and bus personnel in matters of student discipline.
    8. Participate on the School's Emergency Response Team.
    9. Participate in the development of student behavioral support plans/structures for success.
    10. Assist in monitoring student engagement in the learning process.
    11. Provide assistance with de-escalating student behaviors and reintegration back into the classroom.
    12. Works with school RTI teams to complete a needs assessment using data.
    13. Assists schools in collecting and analyzing discipline data, and actively participates in School Data Teams to reduce discipline referrals and use alternatives to suspensions when possible.
    14. Assist in the planning of staff development program to raise the level of instructional performance.
    15. Develop lessons to support student developing social and emotional coping skills.
    16. Provide professional learning for staff on behavior and social emotional supports.
    17. Conduct small group support sessions with targeted students based on behavioral and social emotional needs.
    18. Collaborate and communicate with teachers and parents where needed to enhance skills and supports for behavior and social emotional learning of students.
    19. Conduct classroom behavior observations to allow support and planning with student and teacher for academic success.
    20. Works with community and stakeholder partnerships to support behavior intervention structures and connect students to wraparound/support services for behaviors.
    21. Works with administration to complete all required reports and monitor for accuracy.
    22. Complete other duties as assigned.

    Terms of Employment
    Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 200 days. Salary will be based on highest level of certification and allowable experience.
