    GEAR UP's MISSION:

    GEAR UP aims to increase opportunities and pathways to assist underrepresented students in accessing higher education. The program also enhances the relationship between Roswell and the surrounding communities to promote and facilitate college/career readiness in an innovative way by providing tutoring/mentoring, outreach services and support that foster learning and equity for all.


    POSITION SUMMARY

    This is a part-time, temporary appointment position that reports to the GEAR UP Academic Advisor. This position requires the ability to tutor 6th thru 12th grade courses in a classroom setting and work with faculty. Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, email, and Blackboard. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with people. Some evening and weekend work may be required.


    CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Promote student success and retention through effective tutoring in English, Mathematics, Science, Health or other subjects.
    • Work with a range of student ability levels.
    • Work closely with faculty to support instruction.
    • Lead group study sessions.
    • Become familiar with the different needs of students of varying backgrounds.
    • Be able to travel within a 50-mile radius.
    • Other related duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must have completed 1220 Math, 1120 English, and basic college science or higher.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Candidate who can also tutor in at least one other area of study.
