Dean of Undergraduate Programs manages administrative functions of the undergraduate program. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Undergraduate Programs leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Undergraduate Programs requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Undergraduate Programs manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Undergraduate Programs typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Reporting to the Director of the Undergraduate Deans Office, the Associate Director partners with the Director in the management of all departmental programs and services. Through direct student advising and the supervision of the upper-class deans, the Associate Director supports undergraduate students’ intellectual and personal growth consistent with the mission of the College and facilitates the consistent, equitable administration of College policies and procedures.

    Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
    • Proven record of effectiveness in student advising and development of programs that address the needs of students from underrepresented backgrounds and promote student success.
    • Exceptional organizational skills, problem-solving, proficiency in teamwork, collaboration, flexibility, and strong communication to multiple audiences.
    • Capacity to foster strong and effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, families, and campus partners.
    • Solid foundation in student developmental theory and its application to professional practice in student affairs.
    • Commitment to DEI work in higher education.
    • Experience with on-call responsibilities and student crisis management.
    • Master’s Degree with 5-8 years of progressively responsible experience in undergraduate academic support services, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Professional experience in Student Affairs strongly preferred.
    • Experience working in the context of a highly selective liberal arts institution

    • Oversees recruitment, hiring, training, management and evaluation of the upper-level dean team (i.e., undergraduate deans for the sophomore, junior, and senior classes)
    • Provides day-to-day support and guidance for the upper-level dean team consistent with Undergraduate Deans Office policies and practices
    • Works with the Office Manager to develop and maintain office schedules to ensure appropriate coverage
