Decision Support Project Specialist provides technical guidance and solutions to user groups working with decision support software and data tools. Analyzes user requirements and evaluates functionality and configuration options available for existing and new software. Being a Decision Support Project Specialist delivers user training and coaching to facilitate problem solving and decision making using hardware, software, datamarts, and data warehouses. Plans, coordinates and monitors projects to prepare, test, and deploy decision support tools, reports, dashboards and models to users. Additionally, Decision Support Project Specialist troubleshoots and resolves problems. May have specialized knowledge of a particular software product tool or module that is utilized. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Decision Support Project Specialist is a specialist on complex technical and business matters.     This position is responsible for leading and directing the Business Services/Contracts Analytics, Costing/Benchmarking, and Data Integrity teams within Decision Support Services. The position will lead the analysis of strategic objectives and projects, guide Service Line program development/reporting, provide leadership in areas of contract management analytics, managed care analysis, cost accounting methodologies, benchmarking, dashboard analytics, utilization trends, analytics training, and program development. This position will also coach, counsel, and train teams in order to maintain current processes, develop new processes, and find innovative solutions to support institutional strategic goals. Coordinate, plan and implement Business Analytics applications and reporting for UC Davis Health (UCDH) leadership utilizing Tableau and other analytic tools.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Health Care Administration, or related field.
    • Experience in building, leading, supporting, and motivating effective teams.
    • Experience effectively presenting complex information to diverse groups, support findings and collaboratively driving change based on organizational goals and strategic objectives.
    • Demonstrated ability to gather information from multiple sources and analyze applicability and appropriateness and develop efficient workflow and subsequent business tools and documents.
    • Experience processing, managing, and analyzing data required, preferably healthcare data is required.
    • The position requires in-depth financial knowledge, management skills, strong analytical abilities and understanding of hospital operations. Financial knowledge includes: advanced financial and accounting principles, ability to read and interpret financial and statistical reports.
    • Strong computer skills preferred including MS Excel, PowerPoint, and data analytics tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
    • Knowledge of accounting, financial concepts, medical record coding (ICD, DRG, CPT), medical terminology and healthcare reimbursement is desired.
    • Able to facilitate or actively participate in working groups while using interpersonal skills to achieve results.
    • Able to use critical thinking skills to recognize opportunities, report on the financial impact of proposed actions and work with leadership to develop appropriate business strategies is desired.
    • Able to manage multiple tasks and projects, prioritize and meet deadlines while openly communicating project status to customers and using interpersonal skills to negotiate deadlines.
    • Able to identify and resolve issues impacting team performance and/or project outcome.
    • Ability to develop a team of manager and analysts to perform advanced analysis using a variety of computer applications.
    • Strong management skills with a team orientation.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and present complex financial concepts effectively to a non-financial audience.
    • Ability to develop positive professional relationships with all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to make sound decisions and employee effective problem solving techniques to analyze complex problems or information in an objective manner, derive logical conclusions, and initiate appropriate actions for effective resolution and follow through.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Preferred Education/Experience

    • Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, MS)
    • Experience in a large academic healthcare setting.
    • Project management experience
    • Experience managing Decision Support teams in a complex organization.
