    Summary of Position


    Responsible for performing a variety of duties related to dental patient care directed by dental director. Providing comprehensive and appropriate dental care and treatment to patients. Providing supervision to Dental Assistant(s) and Dental Hygienist(s) as assigned. Diagnosing patient problems on basis of history, physical examination, interpretation of x-rays, and the assessment of socio-economic and cultural influences while also being responsible for providing a general climate of cooperation and understanding.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Directly affect improvements in patient well-being through accurate and timely diagnosis and delivery of high quality dental treatment. Ensure the delivery of competent, accurate, dental care and treatment to all patients as assigned.
    • Provide leadership and direction to other dental clinic staff. Effect overall clinic results. Meet or exceed all measurable standards of care, including overall clinical, quality, and productivity goals.
    • Ensure accuracy, efficiency, and appropriate confidentiality with patient charting and related record-keeping and administrative functions as assigned.
    • Understand and ensure all practices and procedures related to the delivery or dental services are consistent with contracted protocols and procedures.
    • Develop and ensure favorable relationships with all patients and their families. Ensure all patient services are delivered in a caring and professional manner.
    • Develop and ensure favorable relationships with vendors, contractors, and payor sources.
    • Develop and ensure ongoing, positive relationships and collaboration with other dentists and dental staff members. Ensure the success of each clinic operation through collaborative support and working relationships with all clinic operations staff.
    • Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent the organization in a highly professional manner at all times.
    • Upload and ensure compliance and attention to all cooperate policies and procedures as well as overall mission and values of the organization.
    • Works under the direct supervision of the Dental Director.

    Essential Functions:

    • Provide routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, general restorative procedures, crown and bridge construction, removable prosthetics, uncomplicated endodontics and minor oral surgery.
    • Initiate and interpret x-ray and lab studies.
    • Administer and prescribe anesthetics and medications.
    • Refer patients for specialty care to other clinic programs or outside agencies as appropriate.
    • Supervise Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienist.
    • Conduct follow-up patient care.
    • Provide dental and oral health education to patients and families.
    • Assist in reviewing clinic productivity, scheduling procedures, and establishing guidelines for care and treatment.
    • Teach and train patients and staff on illness prevention.
    • Actively participate in community dental programs.
    • Assist with in-service and on-going training for clinic staff.
    • Build relationships and foster a high level of customer service.
    • Manage difficult clients and patients, demonstrating interpersonal savvy and influence skills.
    • Exercise professional judgement in the performance of services provided consistent with the organization’s policies and the standards of the dental profession.
    • Demonstrate high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and associated charting requirements.
    • Perform assigned dental tasks using high level of skills and ability.
    • Utilize computers for data entry and information retrieval with proficiency.
    • Utilize and monitor effectiveness and efficiency of all equipment and supplies used in the delivery of services.
    • Communicate frequently with others in verbal and written communication format.
    • Implement and evaluate operational and administrative processes as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications


    Demonstrated expertise in relevant dental practices, protocol, trends and best practices in clinical areas assigned. Demonstrated knowledge and success in effecting overall clinical operations. Able to communicate effectively. Interacts in a friendly, professional manner with a wide range of staff, physicians and public. Plan, prioritize and complete delegated task with attention to detail. Ability to multitask and manage emergency situations successfully. Proficiency in knowledge of office management, use of computer, software packages, and office machines. Requires excellent organizational, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to function as part of a team.

    Experience: Knowledge/Experience of JCAHO accreditation process and requirements, as well as all federal, state and local regulations and standards associated with the delivery of care in a community health center environment.

    Additional skills required: Ability to work effectively with consumers from diverse social, cultural and economic backgrounds; Ability to work independently and use critical thinking skills; Excellent interpersonal & customer service skills; Strong oral & written communication skills; Demonstrates a positive attitude and respectful, professional customer service. Acknowledges patient’s rights on confidentiality issues, maintains patient confidentiality at all times, and follows HIPAA guidelines and regulations. Proactively acts as patient advocate, responding with empathy and respect to resolve patient and family concerns, and recognizes opportunities for improvement to meeting patient concerns. Proactively continues to educate self on providing quality care and improving professional skills.

    Bilingual in Spanish/English.


    Education
    : Required- D.D.S or D.M.D from an Accredited School of Dentistry. Licensed to practice dentistry in all relevant states assigned.
