Design Director directs and oversees CAE technical and team capability to support product, component, or structure design. Provides expertise and technical leadershipfor benchmarking, concept design, prototype development, simulation, testing protocols, and optimization utilizing CAE design and analysis techniques and tools. Being a Design Director develops and optimizes CAE methodology, including guidelines and standards, to increase design process efficiency. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Additionally, Design Director typically reports to senior management. The Design Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Under the general supervision of the Director of Organizational Communication and Outreach, the Associate Director of Marketing, Communication, and Design (MCD) is responsible for managing teams and ensuring the execution of strategies in coordination with the broader marketing plan. This position manages the development, implementation, administration, and support of ASI’s Marketing department including but not limited to, creative design and production, multimedia, social media, and production. The Associate Director of Marketing, Communication and Design (MCD) oversees 3 full-time staff and student assistants and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the MCD production area. This position is responsible for working with other departments and staff in the planning and coordination of various programs and activities. This position also works closely with the ASI Student Leaders assisting with and executing on their behalf an array of marketing efforts.

     

    Essential Duties:

    • Strategic Planning and Branding:
      • Provide leadership and oversee the development, implementation, administration, evaluation, and assessment of inclusive, effective, and timely organization marketing, communications, design, and production.
      • In consultation with key stakeholders, oversees the development, implementation, management, promotion, and evaluation of ASI’s diverse and inclusive brand and positive public image through strategic communication and marketing.
      • Oversee the development, implementation, review, evaluation, and improvement of marketing and communication related department and organizational policies, procedures, and processes.
    • Budget and Resource Management:
      • Oversees all purchasing and inventory control, including but not limited to department specific equipment, computers, supplies, etc.
      • Prepare, present, and implement the marketing budgets to include managing and meeting expense and revenue goals; provide support for additional department budgets.
      • Oversee department external agreements, contracts and reviewing insurance documents as needed.
    • Personnel Management:
      • Provide personnel management and leadership including but not limited to, recruitment, selection, training, development, evaluation, coaching, and discipline for the following staff positions:
        • Design and Production Manager
        • Digital and Social Media Manager
        • Communications Specialist
      • Foster a positive and productive work environment.
    • Data and Evaluation:
      • Prepare, present, and implement short- and long-term department goals to support the mission and vision of ASI.
      • In collaboration with the director, oversees the development, implementation, and management of assessment, evaluation, and data analysis including, but not limited to robust organizational data visualization and effective storytelling with excellent student-forward communication skills to support organizational strategic focus.
      • Oversee data analysis and assessment of marketing and communication efforts.
      • Utilize data to inform strategic decision-making.
      • Communicate results effectively to stakeholders.
    • Compliance and Partnerships:
      • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, fiscal year-end closing and all applicable audit requirements.
      • Develop and maintain marketing partnerships to enhance ASI's reach and image.
    • Collaboration and Leadership:
      • In collaboration with key stakeholders, develop vision and administer innovative and effective organizational marketing and strategic communications through engagement in systematic strategic planning, equity, diversity and inclusivity strategy, goal setting, procedure and process development, assessment, and evaluation; including but not limited to organizational branding and campaigns and comprehensive inclusive marketing plans.
      • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, assigned committees, in-service education session and other organizational or corporate meetings.
      • Create and conduct campus-wide collaborations that serve the overall mission of ASI and the University
      • Support ASI’s DEI plan in all programming, services, and interactions.

    Education:            

    ·         BA or BS degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communication, or another related academic major. Master’s degree preferred.

    Experience:

    ·         Minimum five years’ experience in organizational marketing and/or public relations, student activities, student personnel, college or university administration or closely related field which has demonstrated possession of the knowledge and abilities necessary to supervise the various units herein described. Three years of responsible supervisory experience preferred. A successful combination of education and experience may be considered to meet either requirement.

    ·         Minimum three years’ experience in college student union or collegiate recreation areas preferred, particularly in management and supervision of staff and events, budgeting, and fiscal responsibility for revenue-producing activities.

    Knowledge and Abilities: 

    ·         Strong collaboration, clear communication, and adherence to overarching goals are vital.

    ·         Demonstrated experience working in service organization management. 

    ·         Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a complex setting and to organize, schedule, train, and supervise college age and full-time staff.  

    ·         Works effectively with coworkers, customers and others by sharing ideas in constructive and positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions form others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress, timetables and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions; addressing others by name, title or other respectful identifier and respecting the diversity of our work force in actions, words and deeds.

    ·         Must be able to interpret and carry out policies as they relate to the activities of individuals or groups making use of ASI promotional resources (such as electronic marketing systems, equipment, etc.).

    ·         Must possess strong written English language skills; ability to write and edit concise, effective promotional text.  Must have a working understanding of marketing practices.

    ·         Must possess strong interpersonal skills; ability to motivate student volunteers and employees and to engender support for various programs and projects.  Must be physically able to perform duties as outlined.

    ·         Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the overall operation, function, and programs of the Associated Students Inc.

    ·         Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implication with regard to other programs or service areas of the ASI.

    ·         Knowledge of marketing techniques and presentation skills for the promotion of the ASI and its services, increasing visibility within campus and the surrounding community.

    ·         General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizations and management.

    ·         Ability to use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignment and in implementing program improvements. 

    ·         Ability to gather and analyze data; ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate concise information in both oral and written forms. 

    ·         Ability to prepare and manage budgets as well as financial and cash reports.
