Design Director directs and oversees CAE technical and team capability to support product, component, or structure design. Provides expertise and technical leadershipfor benchmarking, concept design, prototype development, simulation, testing protocols, and optimization utilizing CAE design and analysis techniques and tools. Being a Design Director develops and optimizes CAE methodology, including guidelines and standards, to increase design process efficiency. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Additionally, Design Director typically reports to senior management. The Design Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Design Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Working Conditions and Specific Responsibilities
1. Project Managers work in both an office environment and on the shop floor. The Project Manager must work closely (interact personally several times a day) with the manufacturing staff to make sure that all questions are answered, all necessary resources are available, and quality of deliverables is maintained.
2. Project Managers may, at times, be required to assist in hands-on training of manufacturing techniques or skill sets. If the Project Manager does not possess the skill set, he must arrange training utilizing internal or contract sources of expertise
3. The Project Manager does not directly supervise any project personnel, but is responsible for reporting positive and negative performance of personnel working on the project to their supervisors
4. Work a standard work week with some evenings and weekends required to meet project milestones
