Design Engineer jobs in Rochester, NY

Position Basic Purpose:

This position is responsible for design, development and estimation of products supported in the Rochester NY facility.  The position will split time in between designing and estimating the products.      The individual will be responsible for costing, mechanical designs and designs for manufacturability. Plan and create multi-level bill of materials and work instructions based on the estimates and the processes involved.

Main Accountabilities:

1. Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, customer CAD data, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
2. Interface with Customer, Mersen Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing departments during technical discussions.
3. Interface with suppliers over designs and costs
4. Plan, Organize and Prioritize tasks and resources
5. Design fixtures, as required, to reduce the non-value add time and to maximize the machining envelope
6. Prepare manufacturing cost estimates based on established costing procedures and manufacturing processes
7. Plan and create multi-level bill of materials and work instructions based on the estimates and the processes involved
8. Support new products development from design to manufacturing

Requested Knowledge, Competencies and Abilities:

1. Mechanical Engineering Degree
2. Looking for recent graduates up to 3 year’s experience
3. Understanding of drafting standards, geometric tolerances, and interpretations to various standards
4. Understand process control, capabilities, and various methods of manufacturing preferred
5. Understand CNC machine shop practices, processes, tooling and theory of machining preferred
6. Must have a valid driver’s license and passport (occasional international travel will be required)

Work Environment

This job operates in a production office environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
