Design Manager manages a team of CAE specialists that support the design engineering and development of products, components, or structures. Collaborates with engineering teams to provide CAE design, analysis, and modeling support. Being a Design Manager utilizes CAE tools to facilitate benchmarking, concept design, prototype development, simulation, and testing protocols. Evaluates project results to design, develop, and implement guidelines and procedures to achieve engineering efficiencies. Additionally, Design Manager requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically reports to a director. The Design Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Design Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Responsibilities you would experience at CDI
- Design and plan production of roadway, highway, ADA compliant sidewalk and multi-use facilities.
- Review, and provide roadway design elements including horizontal and vertical alignments, cross sections, intersection layout, drainage design, pedestrian facility design, utilities conflict and relocations, as well as other roadway design tasks.
- Work collaboratively with CDI leaders, and other Project Engineers to develop effective project solutions.
- Mentoring and teaching team members.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a four-year college or university; PE strongly encouraged.
- 6 –18 years experience
- Strong technical skills in transportation engineering and roadway design.
- Experienced in working with governmental clients in Missouri and/or Illinois.
- Proficiency with MicroStation.
- Experience with Highway/Roadway Plan Production.
Desired Skills
- Strong technical skills roadway drainage design
- Experience with Power Geopak SS10 and/or ORD
- Experience with MicroStation Geopak Drainage
- Good communication skills
