    The Opportunity
    WSDOT Technology Services Division (TSD) is currently seeking to fill an IT Customer Support – Senior/Specialist vacancy located in Tumwater, WA. This position will serve as the TSD Headquarters Desktop Support Supervisor and will supervise the daily operations of the IT staff for the Desktop Services group at the Edna Lucille Goodrich (ELG) building and other locations as necessary or assigned. In this role, you will assist in the budgeting, purchasing activities for WSDOT IT services, and supervision of IT technical staff. In addition, this position will assist with the development and implementation of the IT strategic plan and will participate in the development of the regional IT biennial budget and recommend IT purchases and services. The TSD Headquarters Desktop Support Supervisor will be responsible for operational functions of IT relating to personal computers, laptops, tablets, printers, copiers, multi-function printers, software licensing, asset lifecycle management, end user technical training, security (including anti-virus and patch management), audio/visual conference services, and telework implementation services. Our top candidate must have exceptional communication skills as this role will have frequent interactions among employees and customers at all levels in potentially stressful situations.

    What to Expect
    HQ IT provides services to over 2000 employees among 7 sites, including the agency’s, programs in the Puget Sound area that are making multi-modal investments in partnership with local agencies on WSDOT’s facilities. Specifically, IT is responsible for the management of and administration of services (IT Help Desk, training/education, procurement, and solving technology related problems) so that WSDOT staff can complete their assigned work activities.
     
    Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the TSD Headquarters Desktop Support Supervisor will:
    • Serve as the highest level of technical expertise for the escalation of all unresolved and most complex, workstation, client supporting systems, and mobile device technical issues.
    • Provide daily management of regional IT services and support technicians for information technology services and operations. 
    • Lead the effective and efficient delivery of Desktop Services to ensure the ongoing service provided is proactive, professional, and business focused.
    • Implement lifecycle management by monitoring useful life and performance of assets to upgrade or replace according to agency standards.
    • Deliver technology support and resources to the region while staying within budget limitations.
    • Oversee a team that maintains and logs  IT problems, status, and problem assignment using agency IT Service Management System (ITSM).
    • Plan and lead agency IT hardware and software deployment projects.
     
    Qualifications
    To be considered for this opportunity, at least one of the following are required:
    • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a closely related field and seven (7) years of experience working full-time, progressive IT work experience in varied IT disciplines such as IT customer support, policy development, network administration, server administration, telecommunications administration, systems administration, and IT project management. OR
    • A two-year degree in computer science or a closely related field and nine (9) years of experience working full-time, progressive IT work experience in varied IT disciplines such as IT customer support, policy development, network administration, server administration, telecommunications administration, systems administration, and IT project management. OR
    • Ten (10) years of full-time, progressive IT work experience working in a customer serviced-focused technology organization in varied IT disciplines such as IT customer support, policy development, network administration, server administration, telecommunications administration, systems administration, and IT project management.
      (Advanced education may substitute for up to three years of full-time IT work experience)
     
    In addition to one of the above, the following are also required
    • Demonstrated experience with written and verbal communications including presentations.
    • Four (4) years of experience providing technical consulting and installation of IT hardware and software across a large (2000 users) computing environment.
    • ITILv4 certification (e.g. Foundation, Strategist, etc.). 
    • Expertise in managing technical IT and the IT components of ongoing operational projects to assure successful project outcomes while assuring sustainable IT solutions.
    • Effective written and oral communication skills appropriate to varied audiences and technical skill levels and comprehension.
    • Ability to respond to emergency outages, sometimes during inclement weather events or other catastrophic incidents.
    • The ability to transport various pieces of computer-related equipment that may weigh up to 50 pounds.
    • A valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in Washington State. 

    It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
    • COMP TIA Certification (e.g. A , NET ).
    • Microsoft or Cisco Certifications. 
    • Four (4) years of experience providing project management for technical IT projects involving installation of IT networks, hardware, and software.

    • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for supervisory positions within the TSD Division.
