The city of Susanville provides excellent benefits including financial
support towards continuing education, longevity pay, paid State Disability
Insurance (SDI), as well as the following benefits:
ANNUAL SALARY $106,480 - $149,828 placement within this range is
dependent on qualifications and experience.
Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance: 90/10 plan provided through
Anthem Blue Cross as well as Dental and Vision coverage. The policy
covers employee, spouses, and any eligible dependents, with the current
employee contribution of $46 per month.
Life Insurance: $25,000 term life insurance policy
Deferred Compensation Plan: Voluntary plans available including IRS
Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan with city contribution of $40 per pay
period.
Flexible Benefits: $400 annually
General Leave:
holidays: 14 paid holidays
vacation: accrued at 136 hours in first year of service; 160 hours
after five years of service; 200 hours after ten years of service; 240
after fifteen full years of service
management leave: 80 hours per fiscal year
sick leave: 3.69 hours accrued per pay period for a total of 12 days
per year
Retirement: The city participates in the California Public Employees'
Retirement System (CalPERS). For classis members the benefit level is 3%
at 50 with a contribution rate of 9% of gross pay per period. For new
members (PEPRA), the benefit level is 2.7% at 57 with a current employee
contribution rate of 13.75% of gross salary per pay period.

the city’s public safety departments which includes the Susanville Police

The public safety chief will manage the city’s public safety programs
providing law enforcement, crime prevention, fire suppression, emergency
preparedness, emergency medical services, and other services related to the
protection of life and property in the city of Susanville. The Public Safety
Chief will oversee the Public Safety Administrative Department which has 3
full-time positions including the Public Safety Chief; the Susanville Police
Department which has 20 full-time positions, 17 sworn and 3 non-sworn; and
the Susanville Fire Department has 8 full-time positions.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Must possess a valid California Class C driver's
license, or ability to possess prior to
appointment, and have a satisfactory driving
record.
Must we be a sworn peace officer within
California or have the ability to obtain peace
officer status in California prior to appointment.
Must have experience and training as a
firefighter.
Must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an
accredited college or university in Police Science,
Fire Science, Public Administration, Political
Science, or a closely related field.
