  • General Purpose Statement


    The Retail Associate is responsible for the daily operation of the Aspen Art Museum’s retail venues, which includes generating sales, visual merchandising, cash handling, administration of reports, inventory control and processing, answering phones, and general customer service. At this time, we are seeking a part-time Retail Associate with shifts available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities


    • Generate sales of products and elevate customer experience.
    • Process online orders and maintain products for the Aspen Art Museum's online store.
    • Execute quarterly cycle counts on each product category and support an annual full-store inventory.
    • Open and close the point-of-sale (POS) system at start and end of shift.
    • Count cash, print reports, and organize daily deposit information.
    • Process retail sales and memberships using the POS system.
    • Upkeep of retail areas including cleaning surfaces, straightening merchandise, and restocking.
    • Assist with receiving new merchandise, including entering the merchandise in the POS system, ticketing, and displaying.
    • Maintain the ability to discuss the Aspen Art Museum's exhibitions, current and upcoming, as well as other AAM functions and programs, including public programs, educational programs, special events, and more.
    • Maintain familiarity with AAM's collaborations with artists, vendors, and others.
    • Demonstrate professionalism and unwavering commitment to protecting confidential information.
    • Support retail operations during special events.
    • Assist the Sr. Manager of Retail & Visitor Services and other team members with additional duties as assigned. 


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


    • Ability to deliver excellent customer service and team support, including the ability to communicate effectively with individuals of differing social and cultural backgrounds.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a rigorous commitment to accuracy.
    • Knowledge of AAM, its policies, and procedures and the ability to follow operating procedures in a wide variety of circumstances.
    • Dependability, flexibility, and adaptability in our dynamic, event-driven environment.
    • Ability to be a proactive self-starter, maintaining motivation and attention to detail during busy and quiet periods.
    • Ability to represent the museum with integrity and professionalism, upholding museum policies in a helpful and positive manner.
    • Ability to work days, evenings, and some holidays.
    • Knowledge of computer applications and programs, e.g. MS Office Suite and Google Workspace.
    • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.
    • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

     

    Requirements and Qualifications


    • High school diploma or GED required. A degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
    • One year of work experience in a retail sales or similar customer service setting that has included the use of retail point-of-sale systems.

    Hours and Work Schedule


    This is an hourly position which requires availability for day, evening, and holiday shifts. At this time, shifts are available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The Retail Associate position is nonexempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and will receive overtime pay for all hours worked in excess of forty hours in a seven-day workweek.
