  • SUMMARY Active team member with the CEO and CFO, the Development Director develops strategic department plans, coordinates and oversees the overall functions of the Development Department; Secures and administers external funding for projects that fulfill the mission and goals of the Museum; prospects, researches, and maintaining donor relationships; develops sponsorship and other funding relationships with businesses; supports capital campaign activities; maintains database and donor-related paperwork. Works at and with full Museum team to operate public fundraising events throughout the year.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may also be assigned.

    • Coordinates all activities and oversees the successful execution of the activities within the Development Department.
    • Proactive team member to the CFO and CEO.
    • Develop and execute all parts of the fundraising matrix.
    • Actively executes all aspects of the fundraising cycle including research, initial calls, proposal writing, meetings, reports and follow-up to donors, data management, continued donor cultivation.
    • Assist CEO in coordination and administration for Museum capital campaigns.
    • Maintains complete and detailed donor files and databases for both general fundraising and capital campaign activities.
    • Supervise the volunteer & membership coordinator and provide general membership program over-site.
    • Provide mentorship to development interns working within the department.
    • Develop and maintain department budget with input of the volunteer & membership coordinator.
    • Secure and administer external funding through private donations, grants, corporate sponsorships, memories programs, bequests, and develop additional programs.
    • Research, develop and publicize funding opportunities to staff, Board, members, volunteers, and the general public as appropriate.
    • Follow and remain up to date on current fundraising laws, ethics, and Museum financial donation policies.
    • Develop and submit 75% of total grant proposals for funding.
    • Fulfill reporting requirements for funded proposals.
    • Provides donation acknowledgements in a timely manner to all donors.
    • Manage compliance during use of any donated funds including maintenance of required compliance documentation.
    • Review unsuccessful proposals to determine revisions or other funding opportunities.
    • Work closely with CEO and Board of Director prospecting new donors, as well as establishing and maintaining donor relationships.
    • Develop and maintain estate/planned and long-term giving programs.
    • Provides leadership in the development of an endowment fund.
    • Interface with relevant Board committees and provide reports as requested.
    • Oversee the planning, coordinate and execution of the Rails and Ales Brewfest and smaller fundraising and donor events with the membership coordinator.
    • Oversee volunteer & membership coordinator and membership activities.
    • Participate in Museum-wide events during the weekends and evenings including The Great Bunny Train, Paw Patrol, Terror on the Fox, The Great Pumpkin Train, Volunteer Dinner, Festival of Trees Preview, Polar Express, and others as requested.
    • Secure, coordinate and operate development-focused events such as corporate-sponsored free days, special dinners, and other donor-led events.
    • Function as the Manager on Duty, working approximately one weekend day per month.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or Business Administration required; 5 - 7 years experience in a relevant position with a proven track record of results.

    Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
