JOB SUMMARY:
The Economic Development Coordinator will work closely with the Mayor and Borough Administrator/Economic Development Director on a wide variety of economic development initiatives. This individual will serve as the Neighborhood Preservation Program Coordinator for the Woodbridge Avenue commercial district and will help to build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses and commercial property owners throughout the Borough, identifying their needs and working to identify resources and develop assistance programs. The Economic Development Coordinator will also support the ongoing redevelopment activities in town, assisting with community outreach and coordination. The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $65,000.
WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Regular communication with local businesses and commercial property owners
- Conduct research on business needs and trends and prepare reports and recommendations for review by the Economic Development Director
- Draft communications regarding new and existing redevelopment projects to keep the public up-to-date on status and progress on various initiatives
- Represent the Borough in community meetings
- Assist with the writing and management of related grants
- Monitor local, state and federal policy trends and identify legislation pertinent to Highland Park
- Prepare policy memos for Mayor, Council, and the Borough Administrator
- Conduct outreach to other New Jersey towns to gather best practices
- Coordinate meetings, conferences, special hearings, and community/intergovernmental events for the Mayor and Economic Development Director
- Any other duties as required
REQUIREMENTS:
- College degree, preferably in planning or public administration
- Two years’ experience in an office environment
- Above average computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong internet and telecommunications skills
- Ability to solve problems independently
- Ability to interface with residents and employees in a respectful manner
- Superb customer service skills
- Strong business writing skills
