Position Overview
The Director of Development will plan, implement, and conduct a development, fundraising, and grant-writing strategy to provide for the short- and long-term needs of Industries of the Blind (IOB) and to further our Mission of providing opportunities for employment and personal development for people who are blind or visually impaired to achieve greater independence.

As a member IOB’s senior leadership team, share in the responsibility for overall IOB strategy development and execution of that strategy for IOB
Work with IOB’s senior leadership team to determine the priorities of the organization as it relates to IOB’s development needs as well as community outreach and engagement
Establish fundraising objectives for IOB, setting one year, five year, and longer-term goals
Set annual monetary goals and budgets according to short- and long-term objectives
Develop and maintain a list of potential financial donors including corporations, foundations, and individuals
Produce relevant and informative fundraising literature for distribution to previous donors, prospective donors, and the public
Research, write, and apply for grants and public funding from local, state, federal as well as private, community and corporate foundations, and individual donors
Directly conduct the fundraising efforts for IOB while overseeing the overall process
Maintain records of and report on disbursements of funds for any fundraising related projects
Plan fundraising events that effectively communicate the purpose of the organization while raising funds for IOB and its Mission
Support a community outreach strategy to effectively promote IOB to the local community within Greensboro and surrounding counties
Further IOB’s brand and presence in the community to increase awareness and partnership opportunities
Assist in design and production of relevant and informative literature about IOB
Actively support and strengthen IOB’s presence on social media
Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Skills and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles
Strong experience in grant writing
Knowledge and experience in community outreach
Engagement with and/or strong knowledge of blindness or the broader blindness / visual impairment community a plus
Excellent management and supervisory skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Knowledge of tax planning principles and techniques that favor charitable giving
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Work Experience
3 to 5 years
Five years of experience in Fundraising for a Nonprofit organization highly preferred
Knowledge of IOB’s Mission and the Greensboro, NC area strongly preferred
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Must be able to travel as required
