Diabetes Educator educates patients on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity and glucose testing. Collects patient data to monitor health status and proactively manage the patient's condition. Being a Diabetes Educator facilitates skill development and behavior modification so that the patient is able to successfully manage the disease. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Diabetes Educator typically required to be a Certified Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Diabetes Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.QualificationsEducation/ExperienceMinimum Required:- Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing.
- At least 1 year experience in health care setting with evidence of having obtained proficiency in those areas emphasized in the Registered Nurse curriculum.
Preferred:- Previous experience in a walk in / primary care/ specialty care setting.
License/CertificationMinimum Required:- Current NY State RN license.
- Documentation of current CPR certification required within 1 week of start of employment.
