Diabetes Educator educates patients on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity and glucose testing. Collects patient data to monitor health status and proactively manage the patient's condition. Being a Diabetes Educator facilitates skill development and behavior modification so that the patient is able to successfully manage the disease. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Diabetes Educator typically required to be a Certified Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Diabetes Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Process orders for diabetes and nutritional supplies, including verifying prescriptions, insurance coverage, and authorization. Manage inventory levels to ensure timely fulfillment of patient orders.
    • Interact directly with patients to assess their resupply needs, schedule deliveries, and confirm product preferences.
    • Maintain ongoing communication with healthcare providers to update patient records, prescriptions, and treatment plans as necessary. Uphold compliance with medical guidelines and insurance policies.
    • Ensure patients understand their insurance coverage, resupply schedule and any associated costs.
    • Handles inbound and outbound patient calls, utilizing listening skills to ensure patient’s needs and concerns regarding their equipment or services are addressed. Ensures that all requests are handled accurately and efficiently.
    • Responsible for meeting metric standards set by Diabetes and Nutritional Resupply Manager to ensure success.
    • Identifies complimentary products that may benefit the patient while providing additional information about the products.
    • Understands insurance guidelines and coverage limits regarding supplies for diabetes and enteral.
    • Understands company Enterprise System necessary to enter orders, research patient inquiries and status updates for new equipment.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
     
    Qualifications:
     
    Education:  Graduate of an accredited high school.  
     
    Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Physical Requirements:  
    • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible customer service or inside sales experience.
    • Responsible for maintaining the highest level of customer care while always acting in a professional and courteous manner. Encourage, promote, and maintain strong customer relationships through a partnered approach with external and internal team members.
    • Excellent oral, active listening and written communication skills required.
    • Pleasant personality with excellent phone and interpersonal and organizational skills (a team player).
    • Displays a high drive to meet or exceed daily performance metrics related to key performance indicators.
    • Ability to develop, organize and coordinate multiple patient lists and files.
    • Analytical & problem-solving skills & ability to multitask.
    • Works well in a fast paced and fluid professional environment based on business needs.
