Diabetes Educator educates patients on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity and glucose testing. Collects patient data to monitor health status and proactively manage the patient's condition. Being a Diabetes Educator facilitates skill development and behavior modification so that the patient is able to successfully manage the disease. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Diabetes Educator typically required to be a Certified Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Diabetes Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Diabetes Nurse Educator reports directly up to the Manager of Nutritional Services while working with other CD's all being registered nurses. A BSN or MSN is required for consideration of this opportunity as well as previous experience as a CDCES at an acute care facility of similar size. Team of nurses will consistently work together to ensure that each patient is educated on diet, and lifestyle changes to live and healthy happy life. Registered Dietitian's may also be considered for this opening while having at least 3 years of experience in treatment and education of diabetes services.
