Diabetes Educator educates patients on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity and glucose testing. Collects patient data to monitor health status and proactively manage the patient's condition. Being a Diabetes Educator facilitates skill development and behavior modification so that the patient is able to successfully manage the disease. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Diabetes Educator typically required to be a Certified Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Diabetes Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Job Purpose Statement
    The Center for Children & Families is seeking a Child Abuse Prevention Educator to provide training on child abuse identification, reporting, and prevention as well as awareness campaigns to the northeast region of Louisiana. Responsibilities include coordinating and presenting preapproved child abuse prevention and education curriculum and maintaining relationships with and outreach to area schools, childcare centers, youth-serving organizations, parent groups, and other organizations.
     
    Minimum Job Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required in social work, sociology, psychology, education, or other related field
    • Public speaking, classroom and presentation experience, and effective writing and computer skills preferred
    • Strong passion for and commitment to child abuse prevention
    • Must be reliable, self-motivated, self-sufficient, enthusiastic, and able to work both independently and as a team player
    • Must have good decision-making skills, excellent communication skills, technology skills, and a willingness to interact with professionals in the community
     
    Duties & Responsibilities
    1. Community Training, Outreach, and Awareness
      1. Cultivate and maintain relationships with area schools, childcare centers, and other community organizations to support child abuse prevention and education
      2. Provide trainings on child abuse identification, prevention, and mandated reporting to organizations including but not limited to schools, childcare centers, youth-serving organizations, parent groups, and other organizations
      3. Facilitate and scaffold trainings for diverse audiences of various sizes, backgrounds, ages, and abilities
      4. Keep an ongoing relationship with the media, in coordination with The Center’s marketing department, concerning child abuse identification, prevention, and awareness
      5. Assist in planning and implementation of community events as needed
      6. Be familiar with Center programs and demonstrate the ability to present as needed
     
    1. Collaboration, Supervision, and Administration
      1. Participate in continuing education to stay current with topics related to child abuse prevention, child development, body safety, and related content
      2. Accurately document all activities performed
      3. Attend job-related trainings and conferences as needed
      4. Maintain awareness and sensitivity to service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and integrate this into trainings
      5. Participate in regular supervision with the CAC Coordinator
      6. Complete time cards weekly
      7. Other duties as assigned by the CAC Coordinator
